Hello, my name is Hazel. My animal id is #21010. I am a desexed female white dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 9 years 2 months old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 18-Feb-2018, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving.
Hazel was place at risk based on her biting history and behavior displayed in the shelter.

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
Behavior during intake: Hazel had a stiff body and was hiding behind the owner during intake. Counselor was able to scan for a microchip and take a picture but was unable to collar due to Hazel barking.
Basic Information:: Hazel is a 8 and a half year old spayed female that has chronic ear infections. Owner had Hazel since she was 1 years old but had to surrender due to moving.
Previously lived with:: 2 Adults, 2 Children
How is this dog around strangers?: Around strangers, Hazel is shy for a few days. If someone approaches her or tries to pet her when she first meets them, she will bark, growl and may even snap.
How is this dog around children?: Owner had 2 children ages 6 and 13 in the home and stated that Hazel was usually respectful around both children. If children would come over that Hazel was not comfortable around and would run past her, she would bark and growl.
How is this dog around other dogs?: Owner did not have any other dogs in the home but did state that her mother moved recently with a female medium sized dog and Hazel would hard bark and growl at the other animal. When taken outside for a walk when Hazel would see dogs she would either try to run away and hide or bark and growl at the other dog.
How is this dog around cats?: Owner had a female cat in the home and stated that Hazel would bark and growl at the animal
Resource guarding:: Hazel will bark, growl and snap if someone tries to take away her food, treats or toys.
Bite history:: Hazel has a bite history. She bit about 2 years ago.

Energy level/descriptors:: Low
Other Notes:: Hazel will bark, growl or snap when someone takes away her food, treats or toys and being pushed off furniture. Hazel loves getting a bath and was always friends. Owner has never tried to trim her nails. When unfamiliar people would approach the home or owner, Hazel will bark and growl
For a New Family to Know: Hazel is described as shy around new people, mellow and independent. She has a low activity level and prefers to lounge around rather than play with any toys. In the home, Hazel liked to stay in her favorite spot. She was fed dry food only brand Pedigree. Hazel was kept mostly indoors and is not house trained. She would have accidents daily where she would urinate and defecate in the home. When left alone in the home, Hazel was always well behaved. She knows the cue sit. For exercise, Hazel was taken on slow off leash walks outside. When off leash, Hazel would always stay close to the owners side. When on leash, Hazel pulls lightly when she wants to go back home.

Bite history:: Yes, Hazel has a bite history. She bit about 2 years ago. Owner’s mother in law walked by Hazel when she was eating. Hazel ended up barking, growling and bit the mother in law on the foot.

Summary:: Hazel came into the assessment room timid and fearful, she did not want to interact with the assessor. When the assessor attempt to conduct look item Hazel went to bite the handler on the hand.
Summary (1):: Hazel’s previous guardian reported that she would hard bark and growl at other animals. When taken outside for a walk, Hazel would see dogs she would either try to run away and hide or bark and growl at the other dog. 2/19-21: In a group of small male and female dogs, Hazel mostly explores the yard, keeping to herself.
