07/02/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: When staff goes out of their way to ask if I’ve met the “big playful gorgeous goober” named Dante yet, you know that’s my next stop! And, WOW! Dante is magnificent! Lots of exclamation points here, but he deserves them! Dante looks like he’s been carved from the finest teak wood, his brindle coat shines with good care the gold in his coat reflecting in the sun, and as quiet as I found him in his kennel is as lively as he is once out. His first priority was peeing a river, and when all ‘business’ was promptly taken care of it was time to play. Off leash in a pen he play bows and prances in front of a dog passing by, and in group he solicits play by bouncing and bowing. Bring out a tennis ball and fetch is his game, returning the ball and letting me take it right out of his mouth. Balls, toys, he loves them all, bouncing around, tossing them up, bringing them back for a game of tug and then standing up to give me an exuberant hug. He sits when asked, takes treats gently and has the sweetest little puppy dog expressions ever….you almost can’t help but laugh at him – like the big kid with a baby face! Everything Dante does is with enthusiasm and exuberance, even giving hugs and kisses. He’s looking for a new home with someone who loves to live as large as he does. Remember his slogan: “Dante is my name, playing is my game”. Come meet Mr. Magnificent today.
07/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dante pulls hard on the leash. He was calm and relaxed during handling and easily engages in play, body is loose and wiggly, mouth open. Dante took the toy away but had soft body language. Dante did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Dante solicits by offering bounces and bows. When introduced to an unaltered female dog, he becomes more increasingly sexually motivated.
06/30/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Dante engages in off-leash play with other dogs. Daphne often plays exuberantly, at times with intent to mount female dogs – however, he is also unaltered. Dante would do best in a home with another active, exuberantly playful dog. Due to the fact that Dante arrived into our care as a stray, prior history around dogs is unknown, and it is unknown how Dante’s behavior around dogs outside of the shelter setting. 6/30: When off leash with other dogs, Dante solicits by offering bounces and bows. When introduced to an unaltered female dog, he becomes more increasingly sexually motivated. 7/1 update: Dante engages in exuberant running play with intentions to mount. Toward the end of the interaction he is persistenly sexually motivated. 7/2 update: Dante, again, engages in bouncy running play with males and females. He is tolerant of a rude male and will attempt to mount once that male is no longer in the pen with him. 7/3 update: Dante keeps to himself today after briefly greeting. 7/5 update: Dante engages in play with intent to mount.
