A volunteer writes: Dale is a big potato head mush! The first time I took him out he went from super wiggly in his cage to a pancake as soon as we hit the hallway. He would still wag his tail when I spoke to him and would move a few inches, but seemed a little concerned that I wasn’t joining him in becoming one with the wall. Eventually a staff member had to scoop him up like a ginormous baby and carry him back. I suspect a loud fan is what brought out Mr. Pancake, but I’m happy to report that now Dale basically drags me down the hallway (though if the dryer is on he tries to be very stealth when passing the laundry room…but he is much braver!). He LOVES toys and can entertain himself with them or is happy to let me take and throw them. When he takes a break from playing he solicits petting and is all wiggles. He seems housebroken and curious about other dogs we see passing by. He’s always checking in, has the best smile, and makes me feel like we’re on an adventure together! Whether he’s being a scaredy cat or laughing in the face of danger, Dale is always sweeter than pie. He’d love to go on adventures with you — come see him at Brooklyn ACC!
07/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dale came to the shelter as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Upon intake It was stated Dale allowed all handling, and showed no behavior concerns. During SAFER Dale walked into the assessment room calm and a bit fearful. Dale had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor; he allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Dale was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Dale was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Dale appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1.
