04/30/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 4/27/17 Unaltered Male, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 4/30/17 Look: 5. Dog growls, snaps, and lunges. Toy: 1. Minimal interest, dog sniffs toy. Summary: Cindino avoided the assessor at the beginning of the assessment. When he was handled for look he lunged, growled, and snapped. The rest of the handling portions of the assessment were omitted. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: 5/1: When introduced off leash to dogs in the care center, Cindino allows approach but keeps mostly to himself. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/27/17 During his initial medical exam, Cindino was fractious. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Cindino so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, Cindino displays a medium-low level of activity. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13): Due to how uncomfortable Cindino is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Cindino has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home. Potential challenges: _X_Handling/touch sensitivity: Cindino has been noted to become uncomfortable with handling at times, lunging and snapping when touched. It is important to always go slow and give Cindino the option to walk away from any social interaction. Cindino should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Cindino’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Cindino may do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment.
