04/28/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/28/16 19:01 BASIC INFO Zinc A1070868 is a 6 year old male APBT mix. His owner got him as a gift as a puppy. She had to surrender him with Copper A1070870 and A1070874 Nickel due to her declining health. SOCIALIZATION Zinc spent most of his time with his senior female owner. He’s friendly/outgoing with new people when he does meet them. He plays exuberantly with people. He lived with 2 large dogs-1 male and 1 female. He was friendly with the female. He attacked the other male once (2 years ago) and bit his neck. Their owner supervised them and kept the males separate when she wasn’t home; while together, Zinc was respectful of the other male dog after the aforementioned incident. He’s never bit a person. BEHAVIOR Zinc stays with his owner during storms. He doesn’t mind when his owner takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, wakes him up, or brushes him. He is nervous and tries to jump out of the tub during baths. He barks when strangers come to the home. His owner puts him away in a room so he doesn’t jump up on visitors. He barks at strangers who approach his owners on walks. When they’re close, he tries to jump up on them, and his owner thinks this is friendly and playful. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Zinc’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, obedient, attentive, and high energy. He follows his family around. He plays with a rope toy. He lived inside and slept next to his owner’s bed. He ate dry Pedigree food. Steak is his favorite food but he isn’t picky and eats most food. He’s housetrained and potties outside on grass, but can’t hold urine for long amounts of time. If he can’t wait until his owner gets home, he potties on wee-wee pads in the bathroom. He’s well-behaved while home alone. He sits when asked. He went for brisk walks and pulled on his leash.
04/22/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: His tongue is in the shape of a heart!! And this little munchkin is all heart, tail wags and kisses. A chunky little fellow, he’s likely housetrained, his leash manners are lovely, and as we walk he has the cutest habit of touching my hand with his nose from time to time. Talk about heart!! Mine went pitter patter every time he did that! Ignoring a yappy little dog we passed, Zinc and I walk together like two old friends in harmony. In the yard, he jumps up on the bench to snuggle beside me, and I’m impressed with how well he moves for a chunky little fellow. Where there’s a will there’s a way, and Zinc loves to cuddle with his person and give kisses, so he’s not going to let the height of the bench deter him. Zinc loves treats, takes them gently and is still more interested in snuggling than he is playing with toys. In his first playgroup he bounces around the female greeter dog. With love, friendship and charm to spare, Zinc is looking for a lifelong cuddle buddy. He’s the best snuggler ever! Link to video– https://youtu.be/VRQAG9YlLVU
04/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zinc lived previously with a female owner and two large dogs. He is noted to be friendly with new people and to play exuberantly. He got along well with the other female dog but had a conflict with the male, once, a single bite and retreat. Details of the incident are unknown. Please note that all three dogs were intact in the home. He is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, obedient, attentive, and high-energy. Zinc was taught to lunge and snap at people when told to “attack”, though he has never bitten anyone. Zinc showed some concerning behavior during his SAFER assessment, most notably snapping at the assessor during Tag. He seems to have a generally low threshold for arousal. With some staff members he has been social, soliciting attention by jumping up and licking faces, and he seems to be more comfortable with female caretakers. 4/23 SAFER: Zinc came into our center along with two other large dogs after owner had gone into the hospital. He strongly on the leash during his relief walk. Zinc soft body language when entering the behavior room, but was more interested in exploring is surroundings than interacting with the assessor. Zinc had soft body language during the sensitivity item, but was a bit disconnected from the assessor moving away from him near the end of the item. Zinc displayed high energy and movement during the tag interaction escalating very quickly and attempting to bite the assessor. Due to this behavior the rest of the handling items were not conducted for safety reasons. Zince showed concerning behavior when chewing on the toy item as well, and growled at the assess-a-hand as the assessor attempted to take it from him. When off leash with other dogs, Zinc briefly solicits and bounces around the female greeter. Due to the behavior displayed during SAFER Zinc should be placed with a New hope partner that can provide behavior modification. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog seems to be a bit disconnected from the assessor and moves his body away near the end of the item. Tag: 5. Dog snaps in the direction of the assessor’s knee. Toy 1: 4. Dog freezes and growls.
04/20/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Zinc engages in bouts of play with playful females. He makes some attempt to mount during play. He has not been introduced to a male dog but did arrive into our care with a male from the same household (no information on in home behavior is given). Behavior department recommends a pre adoption interaction to ensure compatability with resident dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Zinc briefly solicits and bounces around the female greeter. 4/21 update: Zinc greets, sniffs, then eventually tries to mount. 4/22 update: Zinc engages in burts of bouncy play with a solicitous female. He is tolerant of her mounting him and he does attempt to mount her.
