GONE 09/22/17

Manhattan Center

My name is ZEUS. My Animal ID # is A1125874.
I am a male blue and white am pit bull ter. The shelter thinks I am about 1 YEAR

I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 09/18/2017 from NY 10451, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

09/21/2017 AT RISK MEMO
Zeus A1125874 is at risk with a New Hope Only determination as he has allowed very minimal handling in the care center so a full assessment was unable to be completed. Zeus has hard barked, growled and lunged towards handlers when they have attempted to interact.

MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT
09/19/2017 Exam Type VACCINATE – Medical Rating is 1 – NORMAL , Behavior Rating is NONE, Weight 56.0 LBS.

09/19/17 15:05 Rabies Product Name: NOBIVAC 1 RABIES Serial Number: 213104 Location of Vaccination: RHL Revaccination Date: 09/19/2018 Expiration Date: 08/22/2018 DVM 1027/1444

09/18/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/18/17 09:32 Zeus is a young adult male medium sized dog. He was found tethered in a park and brought to ACC by police. Police report that he was friendly with his finder and with police. They fed him bread. He rode to ACC in a crate and cried and scratched at the crate. Zeus was tense in the lobby. He remained tense with wide eyes but was tolerant while I put a rope leash on him and removed his collar and chain. He tolerated petting. He approached and sniffed me but did not take treats. He did not react when I exited and re-entered the room. When a new person entered the room, he lunged and growled at them. I walked him out of the room to another new person and handed the leash to him. He was tense and after a few seconds, began growling and lunging at him too. Once they began walking, he walked with him quietly, stiff with a tucked tail. He walked into his kennel on his own.

09/20/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None Date of intake 9/18/2017 Unaltered male, stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: Date of assessment 9/20/2017 Toy: 1.: 4 Dog growls, barks, and bares teeth Summary: Zeus became very uncomfortable in the assessment room, hard barking and quickly moving forward. Out of concern for his stress levels, we feel Zeus is not a candidate for the handling portion of the assessment at this time. INTAKE BEHAVIOR Date of intake 9/18/2017 During intake, Zeus was tense and allowed minimal handling, at times growling and pulling forward toward new people. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Date of initial 9/18/2017 During his initial medical exam, Zeus allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Zeus so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, Zeus displays a medium level of energy. He may benefit from daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope _X_ No children under 13 – Due to Zeus’ discomfort with new people and novel stimuli, we recommend an adult only home at this time. _X_Place with a New Hope partner – Zeus allows minimal handling here at the care center. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner that can re-evaluate behavior once he is settled into a home environment.

This is just so sad walked into his kennel with his tail tucked it’s like these dogs are given a prison sentence and they have done nothing wrong it’s the damn owners and they never have to cough up any accountability

Beautiful dog.. Funny how Zeus takes to some people, and reacts scared to others…He trusted the Police officers..He was calm and friendly with them, and accepted food from them..Accepted the original handler at the ACC, but scared of the other two..Wonder if he associates something bad with the other 2 handlers, maybe they resemble his former owner..All I know is this pup is going to have to fight for his life on very few words.. This is such a shame..Only there 4 days, which, everything is still new to him..They should let him get use to his surroundings.., but that would sound reasonable, and we know ACC is anything but. ..Another negative is that Zeus is a Black dog, not very adoptable(not according to me..It’s ridiculous) The only way Zeus is leaving the ACC is in a body bag..So if you are able to adopt or foster you will save his life..Fostering cost nothing to you..Care is paid for by the NH Rescue..You just supply Zeus with a temporary loving home..Share, and get him noticed..Pledging gets the Rescue to notice Zeus and pays for his care, but you must go through NH to foster. or adopt. Please don’t let ACC kill this poor boy.

Another one tied up in the park this is unbelievable people must drive to New York City just to tie their dog up in the park and leave them Zeus is a Beauty has only been at the shelter like four days he needs more time and if he so aggressive why did he not bite or terrorize the finder ACC just wanting to rid themselves of another dog Zeus is worth saving

I also know he is just a number to NYCACC and they have no empathy for most animals that are to be cared for and protected

I hate that we know which ones are not going to make it by the crappy intake photos, no videos, no comments. It’s like every day you just know which dog/dogs were set up to fail like sweet Zeus, Judge and Cheese Puff. I hate that.
Run free sweet Zeus….you were a beautiful, special boy and you were loved! ??

RIP sweetheart..You might have had a chance if you were given time to decompress, and treated with compassion..4 days wasn;t enough time to know you..You mattered to us.
