08/04/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Limited Profile Date of intake 7/31/2017 Unaltered male, owner surrender Bite history: JayJay bit someone that accidentally stepped on his paw, as well as the person that attempted to intervene. SAFER ASSESSMENT: Date of assessment 8/4/2017 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture, open mouth Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, grabs leash briefly at end of game Squeeze 1 / 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Summary: JayJay displayed no concerning behavior during his handling assessment. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on JayJay so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, JayJay displays with a medium level of energy. He is a social, enthusiastic dog who will benefit from daily walks, runs, exercise and play to keep him engaged and exercised. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behavior outlined below) Potential challenges: _X_Leash-biting – JayJay briefly grabbed leash when excited in the SAFER assessment room, but quickly relinquished when assessor did not engage in tug. It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach JayJay to control his impulses instead of simply reacting. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended.
