12/28/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/28/16 19:42 Basic Information Zeus is an approximately 9 month old male Am Pit bull mix. He is being surrendered because the owner no longer has time for him. He was given to the owner by a family member and was last taken to a vet in 10/17/16. Socialization Around strangers, Zeus is friendly around new people. He has lived a household with adults and no children, he is very hyper and playful with them and other adults in the home. He has never lived with other dog and when outside he barks at other dogs. The owner has never had cats so the owner does not know how Zeus is around them. The owner states that Zeus has never bite another person or animal before. Behavior Zeus is not bothered when you take his food bowl, treat, or toy away, by thunder storms or fireworks. When an unfamiliar person approaches the home or a family member he approaches them in a friendly manor and may try to jump on them. Zeus does not mind being bathed but has never had his nails trimmed. For a new family to know The owner describes Zeus as playful and friendly with a very high activity level. Zeus’s favorite activity is to play tug of war with the owner. Around the house, he follows everyone around and prefers to be in the same room as the rest of the family. He has toys and loves to play with Balls and rope toys. He sleeps mostly indoors with on a dog bed on the floor of the bedroom room. Zeus was being fed Beniful brand dry dog food 3 times a day. Zeus is house trained, and goes to the bathroom on grass outside the house. When left alone Zeus he can be destructive and may tear up furniture. For exercise Zeus is to walks outside twice a day. Behavior during the intake During the intake, Zeus was very active with loose body. Zeus allowed to be scanned (negative), photographed, collar and placed the dog in the kennel. When another dog was in the Lobby with him he attempted to run up to the dog and almost got into a fight.
12/31/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Puppy Zeus!!! A lot of name to live up to but he’s got this! Zeus is all wiggles and snuggles, playful, friendly, lively and everything he should be at 9 mos. old. Happy to make a new friend with a leash, Zeus bounces out of his kennel and out we go. First stop, going potty, confirming information from his former owner that he’s housetrained. Zeus was a bit nervous walking on the street, perhaps due to the busy street or simply unaccustomed to walking on leash, so we head into a pen to get to know one another off leash. Zeus gives the most amazing heartfelt hugs, holding on tight when I kneel down to him, or simply burying his head in my chest. Can I hear ‘awwwwwwwwwwww’? We’re told that he loves to play tug with his person, doesn’t guard his things, is friendly to new people, and slept on his dog bed in the bedroom. Although reported to have no previous experience with other dogs, Zeus has warmed up to other dogs and begins to solicit running play. He’s an itty bitty boy in his gleaming black coat, ready to find a new family to provide structure, positive reinforcement training, and lots of love. He’s a rockstar puppy destined to become a rock star adult and love his person to the moon and back.

Summary: Zeus was friendly and sociable during interaction. At times would bark and jump up, mouthing assessor’s hand without applying pressure. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Zeus avoids approach. He appears anxious and seeks exit from the yard. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/29/2016 Zeus allowed all handling during his initial medical exam. ENERGY LEVEL: Zeus is an active, exuberant young dog who will need daily mental and physical stimulation and exercise to appropriately direct his energy.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience) Potential challenges: _X_Mouthiness/Poor bite inhibition: Zeus may benefit from puppy training to decrease mouthiness. Play should always involve a toy and not hands alone. _X_Destructive behavior: Zeus is reported to destroy furniture when left alone. We have no additional details on what pieces of furniture or how he destroys them, but we recommend leaving Zeus with long-lasting, engaging toys when he is left alone to prevent inappropriate chewing. While he acclimates to his new home he should be left in a safe space where he cannot access any inappropriate items.
