09/03/16 16:50 BASIC INFORMATION: Zeus is a black/white American pit bull terrier. Zeus was given to owner as a gift & has no known health issues. Zeus was surrendered to ACC due to owner moving to a residence that does not allow pets. SOCIALIZATION: Zeus is friendly around strangers and loves getting pet. Zeus has been exposed around small children; Zeus gets along with children & adults. Zeus gets along with other dogs & plays gently. Zeus has previously been exposed to a cat & was respectful towards the cat . Zeus has not bitten another animal or person within the past 10 days. BEHAVIOR: Zeus does not show signs of aggression when owner touches food bowl while he is eating, but if another dog comes near him while he is eating, he will growl and lunge at the dog. Owner is able to take bone, toy or any object from his mouth with no problem. Zeus is afraid of bathing and will attempt to run away. when an unfamiliar person approaches the home, he barks & makes the owner aware. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: Zeus has a high activity level. Owners favorite things of Zeus is, he is extremely affectionate & is always there to greet the owner. He loves to play & would do best in a family home or a single person home with a lot of energy & time. Zeus is familiar with the commands sit, stop & come. For exercise, he loves to go out for brisk walks. He has been kept mostly indoors & enjoys eating dry food. Zeus will go potty on grass or cement. BEHAVIOR UPON INTAKE: Upon intake, Zeus displayed a loose body & an open mouth. Zeus loved to receive attention from the counselor. Zeus allowed all handling & scanned positive.

Zeus previously lived with adults and small children. The owner stated Zeus is friendly around strangers, adults and children. The owner mentioned Zeus was exposed to a cat and was respectful towards the cat. it was reported by the owner Zeus show no concerns when someone remove his food away but if another dog comes near him while eating Zeus will growl and lunge. At intake it was reported Zeus had loose body posture with his mouth open, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Zeus came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Zeus joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Zeus was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Zeus appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter and we recommend separating the dogs during feeding time. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Zeus displays soft body language when greeting the other dog. He is slightly sexually motivated, attempting to mount the female dog, but is able to listen to handler interruptions and wanders in the pen.

According to Zeus’s previous owner, Zeus gets along with other dogs & plays gently. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Zeus displays soft body language when interacting with male and female dogs. He is slightly more nervous around male dogs. He is utilized as a social greeter dog and greets novel female dogs displaying soft body language. He is social, checking in on the often and listens to corrections when he greets for too long. The Behavior Department recommends that Zeus be placed in a home with dogs that match his calm energy level and that a dog-dog interaction be conducted to ensure compatibility. 9/6: Zeus displays soft body language when greeting the other dog. He is slightly sexually motivated, attempting to mount the female dog, but is able to listen to handler interruptions and wanders in the pen. 9/9: Zeus displays nervous body language as he interacts with an intact male dog. He greets and is tolerant of his greeting, but mostly keeps to himself as he explores the pen. 9/10: Zeus is utilized as a greeter dog today. He greets novel female dogs displaying soft body language. He is social, checking in on the often and listens to corrections when he greets for too long.
