09/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zeus previously lived with adults and small children. The owner stated Zeus is friendly around strangers, adults and children. The owner mentioned Zeus was exposed to a cat and was respectful towards the cat. it was reported by the owner Zeus show no concerns when someone remove his food away but if another dog comes near him while eating Zeus will growl and lunge. At intake it was reported Zeus had loose body posture with his mouth open, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Zeus came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Zeus joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Zeus was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Zeus appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter and we recommend separating the dogs during feeding time. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Zeus displays soft body language when greeting the other dog. He is slightly sexually motivated, attempting to mount the female dog, but is able to listen to handler interruptions and wanders in the pen.
