07/31/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A real looker with a silky flannel gray coat and pink highlights, Zeus took to the leash right away! He was ready for some fun! At first he seemed a little overwhelmed by the sights, smells and sounds outside as he darted this way and that. But with some gentle coaxing he started heeling like a real gentleman! I’m proud to say that he didn’t lunge at passing dogs! He was quite popular AND polite at the park. He sat and calmly wagged his tail and people would approach to admire and pet him. He loves to cuddle and would bring extra happiness to any home! Another volunteer writes: When it comes to being a great leader who inspires loyal devotion in his subjects, the mythical ‘King of the gods’ has nothing on our young Zeus, a clumsy goofball with a playful spirit and a big heart all ready and waiting for love. At just one year old he’s as soft-natured and affectionate as you’d expect from a baby barely out of puppyhood and naturally, he has the energy levels to match so a home where he’ll receive lots of attention and snuggles is a must. Outdoors he’s keen to explore and greets other dogs politely and when he sees two little girls running through the park he tries to dash alongside them with a big smile on his face, eager to join in the game. My treats are met with indifference and it seems no one taught Zeus how to sit but he seems to be house trained, comes when called and with his eagerness to please he’s the perfect ‘blank slate’ for learning any new commands and tricks you care to teach him. Zeus is beautiful inside and out, his grown-up years are just beginning and with your help he can look forward to a long and happy life full of fun and friendship. Reach out a friendly paw at our Manhattan Care Center today, Zeus would love to make your acquaintance!
07/31/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zeus came into our center as an owner surrender citing landlord issues. It is reported he lived with another dog, no other details were given. Zeus pulled moderately on leash for his relief walk. He was uncomfortable with touch when entering the SAFER assessment room, needing slow movements to be collared. Zeus was distracted by the door during Look item, lip lick, eyes averted. He was not comfortable with tactile handling, seeking exit, but accepted the touch during Sensitivity item once positioned, lip lick. Zeus was distracted and focused on the exit door during Tag game. He moved his body away quickly at paw Squeeze attempt, so remaining item was conducted using Flank. Zeus showed no response to both Flank Squeezes. He had brief bouts of enthusiasm with Toy, but quickly lost focus. While off leash with a female dog, Zeus is sexually motivated. He will have bouts of gentle solicitation but with the intention of mounting. The Behavior Department feels Zeus would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have young children. He may require a slow approach/slow introduction, so Zeus can warm up at his own pace. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted, distracted and focused on exit, lip lick Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, seeking exit, lip lick, ears back Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor and distracted, focused one exit. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw Flank squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy: 1. Minimal interest, brief bouts of enthusiasm, quickly loses focus Dog-dog: While off leash with a female dog, Zeus is sexually motivated. He will have bouts of gentle solicitation but with the intention of mounting.
