A volunteer writes: Gorgeously taken care of, soft and gentle, Zeus joined us when his owner became too ill to care for him. His caramel coat is stunning, his eyes bright and friendly, and he’s doing the best he can having lost everything he knows. We’re told he’s friendly, affectionate, playful and active, and enjoys playing with sneakers (put your shoes away when you adopt him), rope toys and games of fetch and tug. Zeus knows ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘come, loves bath time and being brushed, likes to play with new people, was walked 3x a day, and barks during storms and fireworks. I loved my time with Zeus, he’s amazing on leash, such a pleasure to watch his graceful, elegant step as we head towards the park, he takes treats softly, and when he found a ball in the pen it became his new best friend as he lay down to chomp on it. I almost felt like I should paint a happy face on the ball as his new bestie! Zeus never tore up the ball, just kept it between his paws for easy chomping access. At 11 years young Zeus is ready to spend his retirement years with plenty of toys, a soft bed, good food and a family or person to love. He’s going to be so easy to love I wish I were able to adopt him as I’d do so in a NY minute. When it was time to go in he hopped in his kennel, onto his bed with his tennis ball, turned and gave me a tail wag salute. Don’t miss the chance to meet our golden boy, Zeus.
PROFILE :
Basic Info:
Zeus is an 11 yr old male AMPBT mix who is being surrendered due to his owner not being physically able to care for him any longer. He was last seen by a veterinarian in 2005 and has no known health issues.
Socialization:
Around strangers, Zeus is friendly/outgoing. Zeus has been around children and plays exuberantly with them. He is friendly with other dogs and cats and he has not bitten anyone or any other animal.
Behavior:
Zeus was walked three times a day by the owner’s son. During storms/fireworks he’ll bark. He isn’t bothered by the following: having his food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being disturbed while sleeping/resting. Zeus loves bath time and being brushed. He hasn’t had his nails trimmed. If someone approaches the home/family
member he wants to play.
For A New Family to Know:
Zeus is friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable & independent with a high activity level. The owner likes how friendly & playful he is. He enjoys playing with a sneakers, rope toys and games of fetch & tug. He is mostly an indoor only dog who sleeps on in his dog. He eats dry dog food 2x a day and likes any kind of dog treats. He knows how to “sit”, “stay” & “come”.
Intake Behavior:
Zeus allowed all handling. He allowed to be scanned (-), collared & taken pictures of. He was a very jumpy, friendly, super wiggly boy who took us quite a few tries to get a picture of. He was then transferred into a kennel with ease.
BEHAVIOR :
Zeus walks calmly on leash. He was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body and tail, but trying to stay close. Zeus was fearful while playing tag but unresponsive to the touch. He took the toy away but had soft body language.
Zeus was surrender to us. According to his previous owner around strangers, Zeus is friendly and outgoing. Zeus has been around children and plays exuberantly with them. He is friendly with other dogs and cats. He isn’t bothered by the following: having his food, food bowl, toys or treats touched or moved. Zeus is friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable & independent with a high activity level”. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. Zeus is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Zeus is more comfortable and settled in a home environment.
