02/07/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/07/16 15:41 Zeus is a 3 year old neutered Chihuahua/Pug/Yorkie mix. His family got him from a family member when he was a puppy. They surrendered him due to landlord conflict. SOCIALIZATION Zeus is shy with new people at first. He becomes relaxed and friendly with some people within hours of being around them (the same day). Usually, if they’ve approached his owners, he will never become friendly with them. Zeus lived with 4 children ages 0-20 and was relaxed, playful, and tolerant with them. He played exuberantly with people. He spent time with his siblings during his first year and had regular visits with a small, geriatric, male dog throughout his life. He was relaxed with these dogs. He pulled towards dogs and cats on walks. He has bit 2 people. Two years ago, he bit a family friend (an adult female) on the thigh as she entered the front door, likely breaking skin. Three weeks ago, he slipped out of his door, and bit a neighbor (an adult female) on the thigh, causing a bruise and shallow puncture. His owners think he initially didn’t recognize these people. BEHAVIOR Zeus doesn’t mind storms. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, or wakes him up. He’s nervous when his owner trims his nails. He loves baths. He growls when brushed. He barks and lunges when strangers approach his family members or come into his home, and would likely bite if not restrained. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Zeus’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy, and medium energy. They think of him as a lap dog, a spoiled baby, and one of the children. He follows his family around. He likes balls and stuffed toys and likes fetch, chase, and tug. He lived inside and slept with his owners. He ate Mighty Dog wet food and got eggs, pizza, cheese, pasta with meat, and rice with meat as treats. He’s trained to urinate outside (he likes to go on cement or dirt) and defecate on the floor in the bathroom (he uses wee-wee pads when they have them). He’s well-behaved while home alone. He was kept in a pop-up crate when new people came over and would escape. He knows sit. He went for slow walks and pulls on his leash. INTAKE Zeus was tense during intake. He lunged and growled when I stepped towards his owners. He stood up and leaned into his owners while they pet him. He allowed them to collar him, and scan him (-). He rolled in circles while they held him and put a muzzle on him.

02/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zeus was difficult to remove from her kennel showing teeth, growling. Once he was removed from his kennel she walks with a low and fearful body language. Zeus became very uncomfortable when the assessor tries to approach to her giving warning signals such as freezing, growling, baring of teeth and air snap to the assessor. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Zeus is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER full safer at this time. During the resources Zeus shows no interest on the toy. He was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful. Zeus was surrender to us. According to her previous owner Zeus is shy with new people at first. He becomes relaxed and friendly with some people within hours of being around them (the same day). Zeus lived with 4 children ages 0-20 and was relaxed, playful, and tolerant with them. He played exuberantly with people. He spent time with his siblings during his first year and had regular visits with a small, geriatric, male dog throughout his life. He was relaxed with these dogs. Zeus had bitten two people in the past”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long or neutral. Helper:A1064662
02/10/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Zeus approaches the gate to greet a group of dogs with a soft body and brief wagging tail. However, Zeus is uncomfortable with handling and does not allow collaring, so he can not be placed into the yard to socialize off leash. Although he did not live in a home with any other dogs, his owner reports that Zeus had “regular visits with a small, geriatric, male dog throughout his life. He was relaxed with these dogs. He pulled towards dogs and cats on walks.” Based on this information the behavior department feels Zeus could be placed into a home with another calm dog, but to allow him time to acclimate to his surroundings before doing any introductions to any resident dogs.
