Zeus
Hello, my name is Zeus. My animal id is #16044. I am a male brown brindle dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 10 months old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 13-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- landlord won’t allow.
Zues is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. We suggest that Zues would be most suited to a home experienced with dogs.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A volunteer writes: Looking for love? Looking for a cuddle partner? Looking for a dog who snorts (well, maybe not, but it’s an adorable bonus!). Then look no further, as you’ve found him. Meet Zeus. A brindlicious boy who’s happiest snuggling with his human, enjoying some treats, wagging his tail, and of course, snorting with the joy of it all. Zeus loves meeting new people, there are no strangers in his world, everyone is a friend worthy of a kiss in about a second. Surrendered by his person, Zeus comes with an excellent resume describing a dog who loves meeting new people, is friendly and playful with young children, is playful with cats, is house-trained, doesn’t guard his stuff, likes to play tug and be in the same room as his person, is well behaved when left home alone, knows ‘sit’, ‘give paw’, ‘stay’, ‘come’ and ‘down’. A walk with Zeus goes like this: step, step, hug, hug, sniff, sniff, step, hug, hug, sniff, step, hug, step, step and every variation of that theme. Zeus is a total lover boy. His happy place is snuggled up with his person, giving kisses. He showed me his sit and paw, takes treats gently with a smile (so cute), and is gorgeous in his lush coat. Zeus is clearly the best friend you never knew you needed, always ready to be by your side and share in every adventure, or simply be near you as you curl up on your sofa.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks
Recommendations comments:: Single dog home/no dog parks: Due to the history mentioned by the previous owner (keeps distance, may snap), a home without other dogs is recommended for Zeus.
Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition
Potential challenges comments:: Basic manners/poor impulse control: It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach him to control hid impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Zeus has shown some mouthiness in the care center. Little pressure is applied, but this is a behavior that should be extinguished through training alternate behaviors and lack of reward (ex. walking away whenever Zeus’s teeth make contact with skin).
