A volunteer writes: Zetes should be the poster girl for big, beautiful, brindle dogs — she is amazing! Her beauty might not be conventional, but her smile could light up a room and her eyes look so kind. She looks like she’s been a mom many and has some grey around her muzzle…both signs that she is full of wisdom! She arrived with another dog, Zoya, who isn’t adjusting nearly as well and is too scared to leave her cage. Zetes, however, sees a friend in every new face and has even been called upon by staff members in an effort to lure Zoya out. She has good leash manners, seems housebroken and knows “sit.” Above all, she loves love! She radiates positive energy and is so easy to connect with. She’ll rest her head on my lap, frequently props her paws up to solicit more affection, and wags her tail when I talk to her. When it’s time to go back in her cage Zetes quietly protests and I’ve heard her howling when no one’s around…this treasure belongs in a home. Please come meet her at Brooklyn ACC and see if it might be yours!
04/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zetes came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Zetes came in calm and relaxed, she was very friendly and affectionate towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Zetes was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Zetes was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Zetes appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter and we recommend a thorough dog to dog interaction before being place into a permanent home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Zete greets at the gate with a neutral body. Once in the pen she exchanges sniffs with raise hackles and becomes slightly assertive, giving the other dog a quick muzzle punch then standing tall. She explores her surrondings after handlers interruptions.
04/28/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Zete greets at the gate with a neutral body. Once in the pen she exchanges sniffs with raise hackles and becomes slightly assertive, giving the other dog a quick muzzle punch then standing tall. She explores her surrondings after handlers interruptions. 5/03 Update: Zetes approaches the gate with a high tail. Once she enters the pen she becomes stiff while exchanging sniffs. She begins to press her muzzle against the other dogs face and follows alongside of him. She will increase her distance when handlers interrupt and explore her surroundings.
