02/06/17 08:45 Zelda was hit by a car. She was carried into the shelter by the police. Zelda was very affectionate with the officers and staff. Allowed all handling although she was in pain. Zelda licked officers and snuggled up against an officer as he sat on the floor with her.
02/09/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: We all want to get our hands on Zelda. She is such a lovebug and a trooper! So puppy like, too. She loves when someone sits at the edge of her kennel, plays tug of war with her, feeds her treats or a pig’s ear. She does not guard her treasures and is glad to share them with her caretaker. Zelda is eager for caresses and kisses and has so much to give back herself. Her tail wags non stop. She does not have the legendary Pittie’s laugh on her face, but a true soft smile. Zelda is so gentle. Although she wants to go out, she is a bit hesitant as one of her legs was broken in a car accident. With gentle coaxing, Zelda slowly emerges from her den and walks valiantly with an expected limp. She has a lot of admirers among staff and volunteers and of course the veterinary folks who are attending to her daily. Zelda neared some big and small dogs during our time together and she was totally nonchalant about them. Although we do not know much about Zelda, what we had the chance to see about her just made us love her to pieces. I hope that in this month dedicated to Love, you heart will be touched by Zelda . Come and meet her soon at the Manhattan Care Center.
02/07/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 2/6/17 Unaltered Female, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 2/7/17 Summary: Due her current medical condition, Zelda is not an appropriate candidate for a SAFER assessment at this time. The behavior department believes Zelda would benefit best from placement with a New Hope Rescue who can meet her needs medically and then assess behavior once she is in a stable environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Zelda to new and unfamiliar situations. Sasha appears to be very social with people, soliciting attention from everyone she meets and allowing all handling. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Summary MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 2/6/17 During her initial medical exam, Zelda allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: Due to her current medical condition, Zelda’s energy level cannot be properly evaluated at this time. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_Place with a New Hope partner: New Hope placement is recommended due to Zelda’s current medical condition. At the care center she has been extremely social with people and has allowed all handling.
