12/30/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
Zeke A1100734 is a male red & white AMPBT who was found as a stray a yr ago & is being surrendered due to cost and no time. Zeke hasn’t been seen by a veterinarian and currently is thin, has some hair loss and what appears to be a scar on his back. Socialization: Around strangers Zeke is friendly/outgoing. He’s spent time with grandchildren ages 6yrs & 7yrs old and was gentle, exuberant, very playful & somewhat rough with them (during play he doesn’t know his strength) and at times he’ll allow them to be near him while he eats and other times he’ll growl and or snap at them if they or anyone gets too close while he’s eating or about to eat. He’s the same with the adults in the home. Zeke briefly lived with a female Pit that he got along well with playing and “hanging out” together. Zeke hasn’t lived with/been around cats. He did quickly bite a child about a month ago that was messing with him while he was eating; the bite didn’t bleed/break skin. Zeke was growling but the child remained close which resulted in the bite. Behavior: Zeke “goes” around the home & barks quite a bit especially when left home alone in his crate. Since a financial change he’s become protective of his food. If you’re near him/his food and or try to touch/move it he’ll growl and or snap at you. During storms/fireworks he’ll bark and or hide at times. Zeke isn’t bothered by the following: being brushed/bathed or being disturbed while sleeping/resting. Zeke hasn’t had his nails trimmed. If someone approaches the home/family member he’ll bark and or jump on them to greet them. For A New Family to Know: Zeke is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, & excitable with a medium activity level. Zeke enjoys playing with rope toys and games of fetch & tug. He’s mostly an indoor only dog who sleeps in his crate & is walked 3x a day where he pulls on his leash at times. Zeke eats dry dog Pedigree food 2x a day (at times) and likes any kind of dog treats which he’ll show off his “sit” for. When left home alone Zeke is placed in his crate where he barks. Intake Behavior: Zeke allowed all handling and had a loose, wiggly body. He allowed to be scanned (-), collared & taken pictures of. Zeke was then walked to his kennel (he didn’t pull and walked along side me) where he ran into it on his own after his food. Zeke takes treats eagerly but gently, I also gave him food/water a couple of times and he didn’t seem to mind me being near his food/water bowls.
01/04/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: The only thing I love more than Zeke’s adorably freckled face is his sociable, eager-to-please personality. After sharing a delightful date that included sitting politely for treats and enjoying a wigglebutt-inducing back rub, my verdict is officially in…Zeke’s a sweetheart! Emaciated yet still swooningly handsome, he has an eye for the ladies but is keen to meet pups and people of any gender, and we’re told he played happily with a female doggie friend in his former home, too. Zeke’s spent time with young children and got along well with them, but once money was tight and food less plentiful, he did begin to warn the little ones away from his ‘stash’, so would prefer a family with only older kids and adults for now. Easy to handle, affectionate and a great leash walker who takes care of business promptly, he already knows some commands and follows them to a T for a tasty reward–there’s plenty of untapped training potential behind this pretty face! Not surprisingly, my good boy’s behavior assessment is filled with great comments, but he’ll still need patience and TLC from his new parents, not to mention plenty of nutritious food. Once Zeke’s settled in and enjoying 3 squares a day, he’ll be free to spend all his time doing what he does best…impressing the heck out of everyone just by being his own beautiful, lovable self!

He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, closed mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: Zeke displayed no behavioral concerns on his assessment. DOG-TO-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: In the care center, Zeke displays brief interest in approaching and interacting with other dogs in the care center. Zeke has resorted to mounting behavior during interactions and has been observed to continue to attempt despite warnings from other dogs. The behavior department recommends allowing Zeke a period of decompression before resuming introductions to other dogs. Introductions should be performed at a slow pace on a one on one basis to tolerant dogs. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/31/16 During his initial medical exam Zeke appeared affectionate and allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL:
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience) _X_No young children (under 5) Potential challenges: _X_House Soiling _X_Resource guarding (Zeke’s previous owner reported that he will growl and snap when someone comes near his food, and that he has bitten a child that did not move away from the food after he gave a warning. Zeke should be left alone when eating and when in possession of a treat. A positive reinforcement behavior protocol for food guarding should be followed. Drop it and trade up games are also recommended.)
