MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT
10/04/2016 Exam Type BEHAVIORPART2 – Medical Rating is 2 NC – MINOR CONDITIONS NOT CONTAGIOUS, Behavior Rating is EXPERIENCE, Weight 43.6 LBS.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience Zaire shows social behavior toward her human caretakers but appears distressed to be surrounded by so many dogs in a kennel environment. Her reactivity toward other dogs is increasing, so we feel that the kennel is not a suitable environment for Zaire. She should move into a stable home environment in which she is the only resident dog as quickly as possible. We recommend counterconditioning and desensitization under the guidance of an experienced, force-free trainer in order to help Zaire feel more comfortable around other dogs. _X_Single-pet home (See playgroup notes) _X_Recommend no dog parks (See playgroup notes)
09/23/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/23/16 18:33 Ziare is an adult female APBT mix. She was brought to ACC with 2 other dogs after they were removed from their apartment by police. Ziare usually had a loose, wiggly body and wagging tail. She pulled towards the male dog with a loose, wiggly body and wagging tail and put her paw on him. They sniffed each other’s faces and rears. She was tolerant and remained loose-bodied when he put his front paws on her back, possibly trying to mount her. Ziare approached the other female dog. She reached to put her front paws on her back. I pulled her back and she began growling, staring at the other dog. She continued for a few seconds, so we removed the other dog from the room. Ziare returned to having a loose, wiggly body. She often pulled towards the male dog with a loose, wiggly body. When he left, she stopped pulling on her leash. She sometimes stood up and leaned against us with a wagging tail while we pet her. She was loose-bodied while we scanned (-) and collared her. She looked around while we walked her onto the backdrop and took her pictures..

A volunteer writes: I love when staff tells me how sweet and snuggly a dog is before I meet them. Nothing but accolades for what a people dog Miss Zaire is. Happy to be leashed, going potty as soon as we’re out the door, we head to my favorite snuggle place for some one on one time. Sure enough, Zaire leans into me, puts her head on my knee, and when I look back on my pictures her eyes are closed, savoring the moments. Zaire’s excitment makes her pull hard on leash and pull towards other dogs on the street. She may not be predisposed to getting along with other dogs as of the moment. On our way back to the building, we ran into her favorite staff person, and Zaire was all snuggles and tail wags. She’s a total people dog, and if you’re looking for a dog who will make you the center of her world, then Zaire is the girl you want to meet. I’d love to think of her in snuggle bliss, eyes closed with pleasure, cuddling in her new home. Are you the person who can give her that gift?
10/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Seized SAFER ASSESSMENT: 10/2/16 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Toy 2. Dog takes toy away, body not stiff. Summary: Zaire pulled a bit on leash during her relief walk, vocalized towards dog she was wallking towards in the hallway. She allowed all handling and was affectionate towards assessor. Recommend Average adopter and Zaire should be the only resident dog. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: It has been observed that Zaire is reactive to dogs while on-leash. She stiffens, emits high-pitched vocalizations, then begins to lunge toward other dogs whilst growling. Due to the observations made of Zaire’s behavior while in the shelter, a basket muzzle is applied before allowing Zaire to interact off-leash. Zaire is initially distracted by the presence of the basket muzzle. She approaches the male helper dog and sniffs, body a bit tense, hackles raised. When he approaches to sniff her rear, she spins around places her paws on the helper dog’s back. When the helper dog turns around, Zaire becomes tense and moves away when approached face to face. Zaire will require extensive socialization and behavior modification to manage her behavior around other dogs. The behavior team recommends a home without other dogs for Zaire until these behaviors can be followed up on outside the care center. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/24/16 During her initial medical exam Zaire was tense and nervous. ENERGY LEVEL:
