06/16/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/16/17 17:53 Yogi is a brown 3 year old medium sized dog. Yogi was a gift from a former neighbor and the family has had him for 3 years. He has no injuries or healh problems that the owner is aware of. Around strangers, Yogi will go up to people and sniff them. He will usually sit by people after he sniffs them. He has lived with children, ages 6, 10, 12, and 15, and was very tolerant of their handling and very loving and friendly. He plays very gently with adults and children. Yogi has spent some time with cats and he will try to go after them and chase them. He has not bitten a person or another animal. Yogi likes to chew on his owner’s construction tools he leaves around the house. He does not chew other items according to the owner. During storms and fireworks, he is not bothered. HIs owner reports he is not bothered when his food bowl is touched during eating, taking items away from his mouth, being restrained, giving him a bath, or touching his paws. He is also not bothered when strangers approach the yard or house. Yogi is described as a friendly, loving, and loyal dog who is super active. He loves to jump and play soccer with the children in the backyard. When his family comes home, he will jump up to greet them. He was given pedigree dry food morning and night. He is house-trained and usually goes on the grass. WHen left alone in the home and yard, Yogi will behave but has chewed up the owner’s tools before. He has not been crate trained. His favorite exercise is running and playing soccer. He pulls very hard on leash and the owner notes that if he has ever gotten loose from the yard, he will go straight to the front door.

06/19/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
CANINE BEHAVIOR TEMPLATE FOR: A1115354 KNOWN HISTORY: Full profile 06/16/17 Intact male, owner surrender (in home for 3 years) Previously lived with: Adults, children (aged 6-15) Behavior toward strangers: Unknown Behavior toward children: Tolerant, friendly Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Chases Resource guarding: None reported Bite history: None reported Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Friendly, loving, loyal with high activity level Other notes: Yogi has previously chewed owner’s tools SAFER ASSESSMENT: 06/19/17 Yogi has allowed minimal handling from his caretakers during his stay in the care centers. Out of concern for his stress levels and his response to restraint, we feel Yogi is not a great candidate for a handling assessment at this time. Please see his owner surrender profile for a full summary of his behavior in his previous home. PLAYGROUP: Due to Yogi’s level of discomfort being handled, we were unable to place a collar on him safely in order for him to attend playgroup. He did greet a novel female on-leash and offered a lip curl and moved away. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 06/16/17 Upon intake, when attempting to be scanned Yogi bit the scanner and was unable to be safely handled. Once owner left, Yogi became growling and thrashing while on leash. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 06/17/17 During his initial medical examination, Yogi was tense, snapping and lunging at the handler; unable to safely examine. ENERGY LEVEL: Yogi has remained fearful throughout his stay in the care center displaying a low activity level which is in stark contrast to what is said in his profile.
RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No cats _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Due to the warning and distance-increasing behaviors shown in the care center, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide force free behavior modification to address theunderlying anxiety. Potential challenges: _X_Destructive behavior: Yogi may benefit from crate training when home alone to decrease any chewing of household items as previously reported. He should always be left with durable, long-lasting chews and other engaging toys when he is left alone, to avoid chewing of inappropriate items. Examples are Kongs and Nylabones. _X_Handling/touch sensitivity: Yogi has growled and snapped when handled at times, showing an uncomfortability with touch in certain areas. It is important to be cautious when touching him in other areas as we do not know where he may have other sensitivities. Positive reinforcement, reward based training should be used to pair touch with good things such as food rewards in order to teach Yogi to be more comfortable with this _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Yogi has displayed fearful behavior in shelter, he displays no social behavior towards handlers and attempts to increase distance and avoid contact. Because he is so uncomfortable, Yogi does not tolerate any form of human-touch and has attempted to snap upon direct contact.
