09/09/16 16:08 Basic information Yankee is a 7 year old male brown Boxer/ Sharpei mix with no known medical conditions. Owner have had Yankee for 7 years and are surrendering because of landlord issues. Socialization Yankee has lived with children ages 5 and 11 and was respectful and playful with them. Yankee played somewhat roughly with the children and liked to jump up on them. Yankee has not lived with cats but has been introduced to other dogs. Yankee was relaxed and playful with some dogs but aggressive towards other. Yankee also is picky on dogs he plays with. Yankee also plays somewhat roughly with adults. Around strangers Yankee is aggressive and with bark and growl at them. Yankee has bitten 2 people before but did not break skin. Behavior Yankee doesn’t like when people come near him while he is eating and with growl and try to bite. Yankee isn’t bothered when he has treats or toys taken away from him. Yankee enjoys getting bathes and being brushed. Yankee isn’t bothered when having his nails trimmed on being held and restrained. During storms and fireworks Yankee will get scared and hide. Yankee doesn’t like loud noises and will bark. When someone unfamiliar approaches the house Yankee will growl and bark. For the new family to know Yankee was described as friendly gentle and anxious with a medium activity level. Yankee is an outside dog and was only brought in the house one time. Yankee chewed on furniture in the house but is well behaved in his dog house. In the yard Yankee will bark a lot. Yankee enjoys playing with toys and chewing on bones while lounging around under a tree. Yankee eats pedigree dry food 3 times a day. Yankee enjoys going on walks to the park but pulls on the leash. Yankee goes to the bathroom on grass or cement. Behavior during intake Yankee was quiet during intake. He came up to the counselor with a wagging tail but after smelling their hand he began to growl. Yankee did not allow to be scanned or collared by the counselor..

Behavior toward cats:Unknown FG/RG: Growl/attempt to bite over food Bite history: Has bitten 2 people over a year ago; One woman on the hand and a child on his side and forearm where Yankee kept biting and had to be pulled off; neither incident broke skin. Housetrained: Lived outside Energy level/descriptors: Medium activity level Other notes: Aggressive toward strangers and will growl at anyone he doesn’t know. AGGRESSION ASSESSMENT: 9/13/2016 Upon entering assessment room, Yankee raised his lip and held direct eye contact with assessor. Because of fearful behavior displayed in shelter, Yankee is not an appropriate candidate for an assessment at the moment. PLAYGROUP: 09/13/2016 Yankee displays soft body language when interacting with male and female dogs. He is a bit nervous with males, but is able to shake off and continues to explore the pen. He is slightly sexually motivated but is able to listen to handler interruptions. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/10/16: Very nervous, tense and timid, does not tolerates petting. Yankee’s previous owner reported that he is playful around some dogs but may display aggressive behavior towards others. 9/12: When off leash at the care center, Yankee initially avoided greeting the other dog but eventually approaches with a soft body. Otherwise he mostly just wanders the yard exploring. 9/13: Yankee displays soft body language when interacting with male and female dogs.
