He is often given large cooked pork bones as treats. Yankee sleeps on his own bed at night. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Yankee remained seated near his owner but would pant rapidly, flatten his ears and look around the room. Yankee soon after would approach the Admissions Counselor when offered treats but wouldn’t accept it and walk away. While Yankee was being walked on the leash he attempted to pull away. When Yankee was seated near the door and the Admissions Counselor attempted to pick up his leash, he lunged and growled at the Admissions Counselor but backed away.
07/30/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: “For I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy…..born on the 4th of July…” Sorry, couldn’t help myself! Our Yankee is a handsome boy, quiet in his kennel but letting me know that a walk would be so appreciated. And indeed it was appreciated as he ‘went’ right away confirming that he is housetrained when walked at least 2 times a day as his former owner advised. We’re also told that he enjoys belly rubs, is well behaved when left home alone, BUT knows how to open the refrigerator (how smart is he) so they tie it closed. Yankee lived with adults and 2 children ages 12 and 4, and is playful and loving. He likes ropes and rubber balls and knows ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘get out’. Yankee and I walked to the park and while he pulls on the leash after a while and after taking care of all of his business he was better. He’s a sniffer of all good scents and there are plenty in our area as he discovered rushing from one to another. Yankee has a nicely taken care of coat, his weight is perfect for his size, and he’s alert and curious, watching everything going on in the park as his tail gently wags. Yankee is a bit baffled by this sudden change in his life and will need some time to absorb it all and regain his balance. I can only imagine how I would feel if one day I had a family and the next day I didn’t. I like Yankee and know that you will too. He may need a slow approach to allow himself to love again, but the best things in life are worth waiting for. Ask to meet our Yankee Doodle Dandy today!
