07/17/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 7/16/17 Unaltered Male, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 7/17/17 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low, and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest, dog sniffs toy. Summary: Yaak displayed no concerning behaviors on his assessment. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: 7/17: When introduced off leash to dogs in the care center Yaak greets politely. INTAKE BEHAVIOR Upon intake, Yaak had a loose body and allowed all handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 7/16/17 During his initial medical exam, Yaak was tense but allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Yaak so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, he displays a medium level of activity. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_No young children (under 5): Due to the behavior seen in the care center, we feel that Bentley may be intimidated by young children. He needs a slow approach and time to warm up. Potential challenges: _x_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Yaak has displayed some fearful behavior in the care center, snapping when groups of people approach him. He remains social in a one on one setting. It is important to always go slow and give Yaak the option to walk away from any social interaction. Yaak should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Yaak’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Yaak would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.
