01/03/16 11:40 Zeus is a 2 year old male neutered rottweiler labrador retriever mix dog who is being surrendered because the owner is moving. Zeus has been with the family for 3 months. Zeus lived with 2 adults and 2 teenagers. He is reported to be playful and affectionate to all family members. There are no other animals in the home. Zeus has been exposed to small children and is exuberant, because of his size the owner does not let him interact for this. When visitors come to the home he will bark to alert the family and then greet them with sniffing. Zeus is house broken and does not have accidents inside. When on leash walks he can be insistent on leash and if he encounters other dogs he may become very aroused with barking and pulling. He has not been exposed to cats. Zeus is tolerant of a bath and has not had a nail trim. Zeus does not guard his food and is indifferent to having it removed. However if he is in his crate he may guard food or treats with growling if someone approaches. He allows to be taking that he plays with. He does not mind a bear hug for handling. If on the couch or bed he is easily removed. Zeus likes squeeky toys but is not destructive to them. He plays fetch with balls and enjoys tugging games. Zeus knows the commands sit. When the family is home he likes to be where they are and when home alone he is well behaved and likes jazz music to relax to. Zeus likes dry science diet food. Upon intake Zeus was exuberant for introduciton and loose for all handling. Counselor was able to scan for microchip (positive) collar and photograph. 01/05/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zeus previously lived with 2 adults, 2 teenagers and has been exposed to small children. The owner stated Zeus is playful and affectionate to all family members. The owner mentioned Zeus is house broken and well behaved when home alone. It was reported by the owner when on walks he can be insistent on leash and if he encounters other dogs he may become very aroused with barking and pulling. The owner stated when Zeus is in his crate he may guard his food or treats with growling if someone approaches the crate. At intake it was reported Zeus was friendly and loose for all handling. Zeus was aroused by the kennel rope but was not defensive. During SAFER Zeus came into the assessment room with high energy and pulling very strongly on the rope, he was social towards the assessor, not all handling items were able to be conducted Zeus tried to bite at the assessor on tag item. During this portion of the assessment on toy item he was firm, loose and wiggly when attempting to remove the item away. When on leash being introduced to the pen Zeus was very high energy, bordering on uncontrollable. He was leaping to the top of the fence, barking incessantly, lunging and slapping the fence. Zeus can be dog reactive inside and outside of the kennel, and when on leash for walks Zeus can be fixated towards other dogs. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time and being the only pet in the house hold. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 3. Dog is not fearful and is struggling to get away. The dog is not focused and is in constant movement, unconnected to the Assessor. Tag: 5. Dog growls or tries to bite. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: Zeus was very high energy, bordering on uncontrollable, upon entering the pen. He was leaping to the top of the fence, barking incessantly, lunging and slapping the fence. Due to this level of energy, Zeus was not allowed the option of interacting with the helper dog. Additionally, Zeus was highly aroused with the handlers. He was throwing his body up against them and running erratically throughout the pens.
