07/02/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Xavier has the cutest face I’ve ever seen, and believe me I’ve seen a lot of his face as he insisted on licking mine the entire time I had him out of his kennel!!! 🙂 Xavier greets me with a tail wag and a cute little whine, letting me know he has to go. As soon as we get outside, he does his business, and then the licking starts… He sits when I ask him, and takes treats very nicely; combine that with my freshly clean face, Xavier earned my “favorite” status. Xavier is one of my favorites and I’m sure you’ll like him too!!! Come to the Care Center and meet him
06/30/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Xavier came into our center after a member of the public found him tied to a fence at the train station. Upon intake, he barked and lunged at cats he saw. He was friendly and allowed all handling during his initial medical exam. Xavier walked very nicely/pranced on leash for his relief walk. He was friendly and sociable upon entering SAFER assessment area. Xavier held gaze for three full seconds during Look item. He leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, open mouth, tail wag. Xavier grabbed leash during Tag game, tugged, though this may be due to the nature of his intake. He released the leash at end of game. Xavier did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, focused on other surrounding stimuli. He playfully kept a firm grip on Toy, body loose. When off leash with other dogs, Xavier is a polite greeter, playful, and often solicits play to a social female. The Behavior Team feels Xavier would do best with an Experienced adopter. He may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners. It is not recommended that Xavier live with any resident cats, though he seems to get along well/playful with other dogs. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed or back. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Xavier is a polite greeter, playful, and often solicits play to a social female.
