12/17/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Talk about a gorgeous redhead!! She’s stunning with a shyly friendly personality to match. Happy for a walk, her leash manners are lovely, she’s bouncy and fun when we see another dog, and had perfect manners as we walked to the park with another volunteer and her dog. In group play, after a little time to acclimate, she play bows and enjoys running play with males and females. Wearing a fleece coat that makes her look like a holiday package according to one staffer, she doesn’t mind being tethered for photos, sits and shakes paw and then loves to hold hands. Awwwwwwwwwwwww 🙂 Wonder is slender and could stand to gain a couple of pounds, but appears to have been nicely taken care of before joining us. And while she isn’t ready to solicit affection as of this writing, she’s happy to meet everyone who wants to meet her. Stevie Wonder’s lyrics come to mind when I’m with her: “Isn’t she lovely / Isn’t she wonderful / Isn’t she precious”, and yes, she is all of those things. Come meet her and see for yourself.

PLAYGROUP: 12/16: When off leash with male and female dogs Wonder is initially fearful and offers defensive corrections when greeted. However, after some time to acclimate she begins play bowing and running through the pens. Wonder may benefit from having slow introductions to social, polite resident dogs. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/16/16 During her initial medical exam Wonder allowed handling but appeared nervous. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience) _X_No young children (under 5) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful (The behavior department recommends allowing Wonder to approach her potential new adopters at her own pace. Wonder appears to easily startle upon loud noises/sudden movements, for this reason we advise against a home with young children at this time. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Wonder to new and unfamiliar situations.)
