SAFER:
Wishbone came into our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. During intake, Wishbone was somewhat tense with stiff body, but allowed all handling. He was growling and nervous during his initial medical exam. Wishbone walked nicely on leash for his relief walk, no pulling. He was soft and friendly upon entering the SAFER assessment room, but uncomfortable with up close tactile handling, body becoming a bit stiff and tense upon positioning. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, eyes averted. Wishbone stood very still during Sensitivity item, mouth closed, tense. He followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, tail wagging. Wishbone lip licked upon positioning for paw Squeeze, did not pull his paw back but stood very still, a bit tense while tail wagging. He showed no interest in Toy. When off leash with other dogs Wishbone greets and is interested in play but does not solicit if the other dog is not interested. The Behavior Team feels Wishbone would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have very young children.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body still and tense, mouth closed..
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, tail wag.
Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Lip lick, Dog does not pull back paw, body a bit still and tense.
Toy 1: No interest.
Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Wishbone greets and is interested in play but does not solicit if the other dog is not interested.
Play group:
When off leash with other dogs Wishbone greets and is interested in play but does not solicit if the other dog is not interested. He will attempt to mount a female, not ceasing when she offers correction.
2/9 update:
Wishbone is tolerant of solicitation from an exuberant female, but he does not engage.
2/10 update:
Wishbone is sexually motivated but will engage in some running play with a larger dog when solicited.
2/11 update:
Wishbone, again, engages in play with intent to mount the females.
