08/04/17 17:40 Basic Information Wilson is a three year old, tan and colored, large male dog. He was surrendered with his sister, Prinny. He is a well-mannered dog and a great companion to owner. He currently has no visible signs of injuries or illness. Socialization Wilson is friendly and outgoing around strangers. He did not live at home or spend time with children but is gentle and exuberant when playing with adults. He lived and spent time with his sister and was relaxed and playful around her. When playing with other dogs, he is gentle. She has never bitten a human or another animal. Behavior Wilson barks too much and would try to escape during fireworks or loud noises. He isn’t bothered if you touch his food or bowl while eating or take his toy away or pushed off furniture or disturbs while sleeping. He is friendly when given a bath and isn’t bothered if brushed or nails trimmed. He is friendly if unfamiliar faces approach owners’ home. For a new Family to Know Wilson is a friendly, affectionate and playful dog with very high energy level. He is super adorable and loves to watch TV. He follows you around at home and likes to play balls and tug. He was kept indoors only and slept on a large dog bed. He was fed both wet and dry dog food (pedigree). He has no favorite treat; is house trained and rarely/never has accidents. He goes potty on gravel/dirt when outdoors and is well behaved when left alone at home. He has never been crated and understands the commands ‘sit, come, down, stay.’ He goes running and jugging; pulls lightly on the leash and wanders some but comes when called. Behavior during Intake Wilson had a very relaxed body with an open mouth and a wagging tail. He took treats, allowed petting, and allowed to be collard, photographed and placed in a kennel. 08/14/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: My nickname for Wilson is ‘Joe Cool’, and he’s one of my favorite walking buddies, the strong and silent type who goes with the flow and maintains impeccable manners even as his sensitive soul sometimes trembles over the noise and bustle of his new home and the big, wide world outside. Wilson arrived at the Care Center with his sister Prinny (A1120868), and both dogs are easy to handle, in flawless physical condition, and just as sweet as pie when spending time with each other indoors or out. I always make a point of walking them by each others’ kennels and they smooch, wag tails and get up on their hind legs to ‘high four’ each other though the door, overjoyed to be reunited again. Wilson has glowing recommendations from the person who found and kept him for a month. We’re told he’s friendly, affectionate and energetic, and of course, relaxed and playful with Prinny, too. Here at the Care Center, he’s more reserved and a bit intimidated by the busy adoptions area, but out on the street he strolls calmly, accepts my snuggles and petting with stoic calm, and takes care of all his business promptly. While he avoided exuberant play when off-leash with a strange pup, our assessors praised Wilson for being highly tolerant of the other dog’s more boisterous personality. On leash, he seems much the same, aloof but very patient with passing dogs large and small. Wilson is barely out of puppyhood, but right now it seems like he feels the weight of the world on his handsome shoulders, and no doubt he longs for familiar surroundings of home and the comfort of another dog by his side. Look deep into those chocolatey eyes and you’ll see the truth that lies in his heart. Wilson is a good boy and a great pet, and all he needs is one kind and patient person to reach out a helping paw. Will it be you?
UPDATE 10/02/17 : The foster writes: Wilson is statuesquely handsome fellow who’s loving side takes some time to come out. He’s the shy and silent type, but once you’re in, he’s the most loyal dog there is. Full of kisses, cuddles and hugs! He is gentle, loving, goofy–the perfect companion. In the house, he’ll follow you around, and rests when you rest. Wilson is playful and loves to play catch, but easily entertains himself with toys if need be, frozen Kong filled with his kibble being his favourite. Wilson is ready for an adventure anytime inside and outside. And although squirrels might get him a bit excited, he has learned to leave them alone. So, long walks in the park are his favourite. Right after oven-dried sweet potato treats. And if you’re looking for some company to run with you, Wilson is your man. He’s a dream on a run!
Wilson is fully housetrained and has no problems with staying home alone. While Wilson is mostly quiet in the home, he barks when he hears an unfamiliar sound. He doesn’t carry on for long, and will usually settle once you tell him everything is okay. He sleeps on his bed or on the floor, but would prefer to be snuggled up with you in your bed. He has been getting food two times a day, in the morning 7am and in the evening 7pm. Wilson doesn’t seem to mind if there’s a disturbance in his normal routines.
Wilson is a smart boy who learns quickly and enjoys training. He knows ‘heel’, ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘stop’, ‘leave it’, ‘take it’, ‘roll over’, ‘paw’ and a couple of more “tricks”.

The previous caretake or Wilson reports that he was “relaxed and playful” with the other dog in his home. Based on history and observation made on Wilson, the behavior department recommends slow introductions between Wilson and respectful, well socialized dogs to allow him time to become comfortable with them. INTAKE BEHAVIOR Upon intake, Wilson had a relaxed body and allowed handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/4/17 During his initial medical exam, Wilson was tense and easily spooked.
ENERGY LEVEL: Wilson is described as having a very high level of activity. He is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful: Wilson is a bit fearful at the care center. It is important to always go slow and give Wilson the option to walk away from any social interaction. Wilson should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Wilson’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Wilson would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.
