08/30/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Wilo is a stray that will go straight to your heart…he is amazing! He seemed a little bashful in his cage when I first met him, but quickly revealed his sweet, cuddly, playful disposition. He has been perfect on leash on our walks — staying so close that I’ve nearly tripped on him (I’m sure he’d take the blame!) and looking up to check in every few feet. He seems housebroken, will sit for treats (and take them like a gentleman), and likes to play with toys. He’s very kissy and licks or very gently mouths my hands when I pet him or just to show how much he appreciates having company. On a recent walk he crawled up on a bench as I was sitting down, feverishly wagged his tail against my back (I’ve never met someone so happy to be almost sat on!), then propped his paws on my shoulders and smothered my face with kisses. He is such a mushy, sweet, good boy. Please come see him at Brooklyn ACC….you’ll make his day!
08/25/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Wilo was surrendered into the Care Center on 8/23/16; He was brought to the Care Center by police. Behavior during intake: Wilo was very nervous upon intake he low growled at the counselor, didn’t allow any handling. During SAFER Wilo came into the assessment room loose and wiggly; he was playful and had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, Wilo allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Wilo was engaged during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Wilo was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Wilo appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average”. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells and, then turns away. Playgroup:When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Wilo is nervous as he greets the other dog displaying a tense face and tucked tail. He is tolerant of the other dog’s greeting but mostly seeks handler interaction.
08/25/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Wilo was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Wilo was initially nervous and sought handler interaction. With further play group sessions, Wilo displays bouncy body language but persistently mounts male and female dogs. He eventually is able to listen to handler interruptions and wanders in the pen. The Behavior Department recommends that Wilo be placed in a home with dogs that are tolerant of his mounting behavior and that a thorough dog-dog interaction be conducted with any potential adopter’s dogs to ensure compatibility. 8/25: Wilo is nervous as he greets the other dog displaying a tense face and tucked tail. He is tolerant of the other dog’s greeting but mostly seeks handler interaction. 8/27: Wilo greets a neutered male dog but shows not further interest in him. When interacting with a female, he becomes sexually motivated. He persistently attempts to mount her even after she offers correction and the handlers interrupt. He displays bouncy body language. 9/1: Wilo displays loose and wiggly body language as he greets a male dog. Once in the pen, Wilo immediately mounts the male dog, persisting after handler interruptions. The session is ended. 9/3: Wilo initially mounts the male dog when he enters the pen. He persists for a while but is eventually able to listen to handler interruptions and displays bouncy body language as he explores the pen. 9/8: Wilo displays bouncy body language as he attempts to mount male and female dogs.
