07/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Willoughby came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Willoughby was loose and wiggly and allowed all handling. During SAFER Willoughby came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Willoughby joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Willoughby freezes and growl on the toy item during the third attempt. Additionally, Willoughby has shown extremely mouthy behavior while here at the Care Center. He solicits attention by air snapping and chattering towards the handler or another dog. This is not behavior that would be considered a warning sign but it is inappropriate behavior that may become a safety concern if his arousal level increases or if he is handled improperly. It appears that Willoughby becomes orally fixated in general possibly due to frustration as well as not a proper amount of mental or physical stimulation. He has been reported chewing on the kuranda bed, clothing, bedding and throughout the assessment, he kept licking the assesor. The Behavior Department recommends that an adopter or rescue be aware of this behavior and provide positive based behavior modification to introduce an alternative behavior for Willoughby to rely on when attention seeking. Due to these concerns and with the toy resource, the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play ends. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Dog licks the handler hand. Squeeze 2:2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Dog-dog: When off leash at the Care Center, Willoughby greets with a soft body and face. He solicits play with bounces and alligator snaps in the other dogs direction and when running away. Willoughby is very mouthy and solicits attention with alligator snaps towards the handlers as well as other dogs.
