08/26/17 14:46 Basic Information William is a brown-brindle and white, large male dog. His owner surrendered him due to personal reasons. Owner stated that he got William from his friend at two weeks old and he is a well-mannered dog. William’s last vet care was in December 2016, and he currently has no visible signs of injuries or illness. Socialization William is very friendly and outgoing around strangers. He lived at home and spent time with children ages six and 13 and is relaxed and respectful. He is gentle when playing with kids and adults. Although William did not live with other dogs, he spent time with dogs in the neighborhood and was playful and respectful and very tolerant around them. And, he has never bitten a human or another animal. Behavior William has a very good behavior. He gets nervous during fireworks and whimpers for attention; is friendly if you touch his food or bowl while eating (he looks at your hands and continues eating). He is friendly if you take his toy away and is not bothered pushed off furniture or disturbs while sleeping. He does not like taking baths but is friendly nonetheless and isn’t bothered if brushed or nails trimmed. He is friendly if unfamiliar faces approach owner. For a new Family to Know William is a friendly, affectionate, playful dog with a high energy level. He is shy sometimes especially meeting new dogs; Owner would usually ease him in by letting him sniff the stranger and get comfortable before letting them play. He has been a great companion to owner’s kids and loves to play in the outdoors in the park. He follows you around at home and likes to play with balls and chew/bones. He also plays fetch and chase. He was kept mostly indoors and slept on a bed in a crate. He was fed both wet and dry dog food (Purina) and his favorite treat is snack bone. He is house trained and rarely has accidents (only happens if it took too long to walk him). He goes potty on grass, gravel/dirt when outdoors and is well behaved when left alone at home. He has been crated and understands the commands ‘sit, come, stay, excuse me, quiet, and stop, no.’ He goes on slow walks on and off leash; pulls lightly on the leash and stays close to your side when off leash. Behavior during Intake Major had a very relaxed body with an open mouth and a wagging tail. He allowed petting, licked and jumped on counselor; and took treats. He allowed all handling

A volunteer writes as told by William: “Hi out there! I’m William and I want to tell you a little about myself. I lived with young kids and enjoyed playing with them. I’m housetrained when walked regularly, I like to play with balls and chew toys, I don’t guard my things, am well behaved when left home alone, and my former family calls me well-mannered, affectionate, friendly and playful. I know lots of commands like, sit, come, stay, excuse me, quiet, stop and no. I have a new friend named Volunteer and she wants to tell you about me.” Hi, I’m William’s new friend, Volunteer, and want to tell you how incredibly sweet he is. He’s a bit shy, but loves to cuddle and give kisses, showed off his house-training skills, wags his tail at everyone he sees, is gorgeous with a coat as soft as velvet, played tug with me a little bit (I let him win), wags his tail at other dogs, wanting to meet them, and is so camera shy I couldn’t get a good picture of him. He’s sleek and oh-so-fine, engaged and engaging, investigating everything going on around him in his soft sweet way. Sweet cuddles are his specialty, and he’d love to show you just how much he’s ready to love you. Come meet him today.

DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: 8/27: When introduced off leash to the female greeter dog, William sniffs, greets with a tense body and raised hackles. He then attempts to keep to himself while exploring his surroundings. INTAKE BEHAVIOR: Upon intake, William had a relaxed body and allowed handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/26/17 During his initial medical exam, William was nervous but social and allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: William’s previous owner described him as having a high level of activity. He is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful: William is a bit fearful at the care center. It is important to always go slow and give William the option to walk away from any social interaction. William should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be William’s choice to approach a new person or thing. William would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.
