02/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Wes came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Wes was calm and loose for all handling. During SAFER Wes came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and very playful towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Wes joins the game mouths the leash in a playful manner and drops it once the game ends during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Wes was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Wes appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, mouths the leash with soft body posture. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Wes greets with anxious, high energy. He was whining, jumping on the gate and bouncing all around eager to meet the dog. He was allowed a little time to smooth out and then let into the pen. Once Wes interacts with the other dog his body posture relaxes and his movements slow down. He solicits play briefly with bows and small bounces.
02/02/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Wes greets with anxious, high energy. He was whining, jumping on the gate and bouncing all around eager to meet the dog. He was allowed a little time to smooth out and then let into the pen. Once Wes interacts with the other dog his body posture relaxes and his movements slow down. He solicits play briefly with bows and small bounces. 2/11 update: Wes greets with high energy, whining and jumping at the gate. Once in the pen, Wes maintains his high energy, bouncy and soliciting play obnoxiously. Wes did not listening to the other dogs signals of look aways and ignoring him. He is persistant after the helper dog corrects him and when the handlers interrupt him and he will not take approbriate breaks.
