06/30/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/30/16 11:23hrs Waves finder describes him as friendly, energetic, and all around great house dog. He was playful with the finder’s children aged 4 to 16 years old. He allowed the children to approach and pet him all over. Once Waves found a comfortable spot in the home, he would lie down all day. . Waves allowed his finder to touch and approach him while he was eating. Waves appeared to be house broken, he waited until he was walked to relieve himself. Waves slept in the bed with the finders children at night. During intake, Waves would solict attention by jumping up on everyone that would come near him. He would wag his tail and allow petting on his head. It was observed that Wave would become excited and bark and whine at dogs that he noticed outside. He was collared, scanned for a microchip(negative) and photographed.
07/02/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Every time I passed his kennel Waves gave me a big smile, a tail wag and did a little tap dance. Every time! It was finally his turn and we bolted out the door. Poor Waves was trying to get my attention so that he could go out and go potty………….making me feel guilty of course that I let him wait so long. He’s a chunky boy who walks very nicely on leash, sits before being asked when he knows a treat is on the way, and takes them gently. He’s fun and friendly, happy being pet and giving kisses, hanging out with me on the park bench on a warm afternoon. There was lots going on in the park as people prepared for the weekend, but what captured Waves attention was the other dogs. He barks at other dogs he sees – dogs of any size and needs to be distracted or go in another direction. Waves is a handsome fellow, well fed, friendly and affectionate – he’d love to be your one and only for a lifetime of snuggles.
07/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Waves shows concerning behaviors when off-leash with other dogs as well as when he passes near them on-leash. He barks and whines, eventually biting at the gate when greeting another dog and is unable to be distracted. Once introduced he charges at the helper dog barking and whining and continues to push her until handler correction is offered. He charges a second time, this time snapping with no vocalizations. The behavior department recommends a rescue group follow up on these behaviors outside of the care center and cautions against any potential interactions on the street until his behaviors can be followed up on. Waves pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Waves was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys. Waves came in as stray. Waves finder describes him as friendly, energetic, and all around great house dog. He was playful with the finder’s children aged 4 to 16 years old. He allowed the children to approach and pet him all over. Waves allowed his finder to touch and approach him while he was eating. Waves appeared to be house broken; he waited until he was walked to relieve himself. Waves slept in the bed with the finders children at night”. Waves did not show any red flags for human-directed aggression during the SAFER assessment; however, due to his extreme reaction to other dogs (as described above and in the GroupBehavior entry) we recommend placement with a New Hope partner at this time. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest.
07/01/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Waves rushes up to the gate barking/whining to greet the helper dog. He becomes increasingly more agitated as the greeting lingers and begins biting at the bars of the door; when handler correction is offered he snaps in that direction. He is pulled away and muzzled; he does calm when other dogs are not in sight. Once introduced he charges at the helper dog barking and whining and continues to push her until handler correction is offered. He then stays away from her for a couple minutes and relaxes his body. However, he then charges again (she had been in his line of vision for the duration of him sitting away from her), this time with no vocalizations, but he is snapping. He is removed from the yard by taking his leash. Waves, again, relaxes and is social with handlers when he does not see any other dogs. He arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs is unknown. The behavior department recommends Waves does not go to a home with any other dogs and cautions against any potential interactions on the street until his behaivors can be followed up on.
