02/22/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Washington came into our center as an owner surrender along with another small dog. It is reported Washington has not been around children, does not go outside often and rarely has visitors in the home. Owner reports Washington is not bothered if anyone touches his Food, Toys, Treats. It is reported Washington is crate trained and housetrained to use wee wee pads indoors. Washington paced upon intake once owner left, and snapped at counselor when attempting to touch, so no further handling was conducted. Washington attempted to bite while being placed inside his kennel. He was very tense and nervous during his initial medical exam, attempted to bite. Washington came out of his kennel easily and walked well on leash, but needed a slow approach to collar. He flinched at any sudden hand movements while in the SAFER assessment room and was curious but did not interact with handlers. Washington would not approach assessor to conduct tactile portions of the assessment, keeping increased distance and continually backing away and lip licking, therefore remaining handling items were skipped. He showed minimal interest in Toy, though this may be due to environment as owner reports he loves toy balls and bone toys. Washington approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, lip lick, tail at spine level. Due to the various attempts to bite while here at the center, Washington must be placed with a New Hope partner who may be able to further socialize him. Look: 4. Dog backs away, body stiff, lip lick, unable to conduct item. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip lick.
