08/06/16 21:57 Vulpix came into our shelter due to an owners arrest. Police raided his house, they got a call to come pick up dog and bring to the shelter. Vulpix was not so happy when came in was in crate. He showed cage aggression but easily came out when had to take to the back. Didnt show any signs of discomfort when handling.

A volunteer writes: OOOOPS! I was almost late writing this bio as I was out playing Pokémon Go, but then found my very own Vulpix at the Care Center! Lucky me — and in more ways than one. This handsome fellow in his black and white cow print coat is active, fun, engaging and playful. Likely housetrained, he used the ‘facilities’ as soon as we were out the door, and off to the park we go. Vulpix pulls hard on the leash, so will benefit from a harness and/or some leash training, but his wagging tail and big smile make it all worthwhile. In the park, he pulls towards squirrels and birds who are playing in the cool green grass. Vulpix has been beautifully taken care of, his coat shines, his weight is perfect for his size, and his nails are trimmed. Tell him he’s a ‘good boy,’ and his tail wags, and he looks up with a smile in his eyes. He poses nicely for pictures, gives a stand up hug, and is totally immersed in the activities unfolding in the park. Vulpix gets jumpy in his happy enthusiasm at making friends, having treats, and life in general, so will need an experienced person to provide structure and positive reinforcement training. Hopping right back into his kennel when our time together was over, he saluted me with another wave of his tail and a big smile.

8/4 SAFER update: Vulpix has shown concerning reactivity toward other dogs both on and off leash. He will bark and growl at dogs in passing on-leash as well as in his kennel When off leash with other dogs, Vulpix is muzzled due to observed on-leash behaviors. When he enters the pen, he charges and runs after the helper dog, however not growling or attempting to bite. He backs up when a handler uses an interrupter, then re-approaches to intently sniff the rear of the female greeter. The behavior department feels that Vulpix can go to an experienced home and recommends not placing Vulpix into a home with other dogs until his behaviors with other dogs can be followed up on. 8/2 SAFER: Vulpix pulls a bit on the leash. She was jumpy but very interested in interacting when she meets the assessor. During the assessment she was calm and relaxed during handling. Vulpix was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She took the toy away but had soft body language. Vulpix did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy.
