I am a female black and white pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 3 YEARS old.
I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 09/29/2016 from NY 11208, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

09/29/16 10:06 Violet came in as a stray. She was nervous at first but started warming up to the counselor. Violets body language was nervous looking with tail tucked in and ears back. After a couple of smiles and a soft voice she started warming up and shaking her tail. After a couple minutes, Violet let the Counselor collar her and take a picture.

10/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE

Violet came into the Care Center as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. UPON INTAKE: Violet was nervous with her tail tucked in and her ears back. She allowed handling from the counselor. DURING SAFER: Violet came into the assessment room she had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor; she allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Violet was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment. Violet was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Violet appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are relaxed, her tail is wagging, and she has a soft body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1/2: 1 Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. PLAYGROUP: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Violet is nervous, greeting the male dog with a low body and tucked tail. She greets him briefly but mostly keeps to herself as she explores the pen.

Violet was surrendered as a stray so her past behavior around dogs is unknown. 9/30: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Violet is nervous, greeting the male dog with a low body and tucked tail. She greets him briefly but mostly keeps to herself as she explores the pen. 10/1: Violet displays soft body language when greeting a female dog. She is social, checking in on the other dog often, as she explores the pen.
