05/03/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/03/16 16:16 BASIC INFO Blake is a 2 year old APBT mix. His family got him as a puppy from his previous owner/breeder but are no longer able to care for him. A family friend cared for him for 1 month and relinquished him to ACC. SOCIALIZATION Blake is friendly/outgoing with new people. He has spent time with children and is relaxed, playful, tolerant, and plays gently with children and adults. He lived with 7 large dogs (male and female) and was relaxed, playful, tolerant, and played somewhat rough with them. He fathered 2 litters of puppies. He lived with cats and was relaxed and respectful of them, giving them space when they rested. She’s never bit anyone. BEHAVIOR Blake doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, or wakes him up. He is nervous during baths and nail trims. He’s friendly with strangers who approach his home/family. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Blake’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, smart, and medium energy. He’s excitable (playing all the time) when he’s with other dogs from the home, but mellow (relaxing) when he’s just with human family. Blake follows his family. He plays with bones, rope toys, and stuffed toys. He plays chase and tug. He lived inside and sleeps with his owners or on a dog bed. He ate dry and wet Blue Wilderness foods. He’s housetrained, potties in grass and around trees and trashcans, and doesn’t have accidents. He’s well-behaved while home alone. He knows the commands “sit,” “come,” and “bring me the remote.” He went for brisk walks and pulled on the leash. His family also walked him without a leash and he wanders but comes when called. INTAKE Blake allowed us to collar him. He became tense while we put a new leash around his neck, but quickly resumed wagging his tail.
04/26/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Handsome Blake was ready for his walk hurrying out the door to go potty. After using the ‘facilities,’ we’re off to the park, Blake pulling slightly on leash, but no biggie. His tail wags as we walk, he wags at people we pass, and once in the park poses for photos like a pro. He’s so good looking people stopped to watch our photo session, and Blake acknowledged them with a smile and gentle wag of his tail. He sits when asked, takes treats gently, and once he knew that treats were an option he’d sit without being asked. Smart! Blake can be a bit mouthy (no pressure) as we play but stops quickly and is easily managed. Up on the bench for more pictures, more treats, more smiles and tail wags, and some kisses! He’s a terrific snuggler, and a lovely companion with whom to sit and watch the world go by. His playful energy and friendly good nature is ready for a person or family (older children) with whom to live happily ever after. Come meet Blake today.
05/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Update: 5/12/16 Since Blake’s SAFER he has begun to deteriorate behaviorally in the shelter environment. He seems to become very frustrated when on leash outside and was reported to immediately take the leash in his mouth once coming out of the kennel. However, once on leash he is not able to be distracted, becomes over aroused and it is difficult to calm him down. Due to this behavior we recommend Blake leave the shelter as soon as possible and be placed in a calm and structured environment. SAFER: 4/30/16 Blake pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Blake played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction and was a bit difficult to distract him. He showed some concerning behavior during toy tests – stiffening, freezes but did not escalate to a snap or bite to the assess-a-hand. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter no children who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 3. Dog is not fearful and is struggling to get away. The dog is not focused and is in constant movement, unconnected to the Assessor. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Rawhide: 4. Dog freezes Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Blake is initially tense upon interacting. He approaches, sniffs the rear of the female greeter and begins to whine with a high tail, likely sexually motivated. When he is unable to mount and the female moves away, he begins to give a low vocal ‘grumbling’.
