11/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Unaltered, Stray Other notes: Finder reports that Vicky barked during the night in the home SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/10/16 Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 5. Dog becomes stiff and lip raised. Toy: 1.No interest. Summary: Vicky is very nervous/fearful and she also kept her distance from the assessor. Due to her response during Sensitivity, the remaining SAFER handling items were skipped. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Vicky is social, checking in on the other male and female dogs often as she explores the pen. She will offer appropriate correction when a male attempts to mount her. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/10/16 During her initial medical examination, Vicky was tense and displayed inconsistent behavior. ENERGY LEVEL: Vicky displays a low activity level in the care center. IN SHELTER BEHAVIOR: Vicky was standing in a corner when an attempt to put a leash on her was made. She began to lip curl, bark and growl and as the handler moved away from her, she lunged and bit the pants of the handler, but did not break skin. She let go as soon as the handler sprayed her with water, but required a couple additional sprays of water to keep her from grabbing the leg again. She then ran away. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Vicky showed some red flag behavior for potential future aggression on the SAFER assessment, so we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification and support before placement into a home. We recommend only force free training. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (see IN SHELTER BEHAVIOR)
