A Little Bit About Me…

A volunteer writes:   So tiny, tiny, tiny.   He’s a little white curly fluff in his kennel, easily lifted out, cocking his head as I talk to him.   His eyes are clouded over so he’s likely blind, certainly vision impaired to a great extent.  As I carry this little morsel he leans into me, relaxing as I wrap him in a sweater for the journey to the yard.  When I put him down he potties immediately and then explores the pen a bit, listening to my voice as I call to him, and then going over to greet a dog he senses in an adjoining pen.  After some time to wander I lift him in my lap gain, wrap him in a sweater and we huddle together, Vanilla leaning into my chest head under my chin.   He’s the sweetest little guy, and when I put him back into this kennel he stook up, paws against the bars as if saying, ‘hey, I liked that, why am I back in here?’   It’s no surprise this tiny tyke aced his behavior assessment in all categories, and now he waits to find his retirement home.   Ask to meet him today.

Details on my behavior are…

Date of assessment: 10-Jan-2018

Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, ears are back, tail is down, relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, and tail is in neutral position with a relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.

Tag: 1. Dog stands with tail low and wagging, and comes toward the Assessor in a friendly manner when the Assessor ceases moving.

Paw squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw.

Paw squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw.

Flank squeeze 1: Item not conducted

Flank squeeze 2: Item not conducted

Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away.

Summary: Vanilla did not approach the assessor in the assessment room but allowed the assessor to approach him. He stood still throughout the assessment, was aloof, but did not display any concerning behaviors.

PLAY GROUP :

1/10: When introduced off leash to dogs, Vanilla keeps mostly to self.

Date of intake: 9-Jan-2018

Summary: Vanilla was social and affectionate.

Date of initial: 10-Jan-2018

Summary: Vanilla allowed handling.

ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Vanilla so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, he displays a low level of activity.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: AVERAGE (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)

Finder states he and his friend found the dog wandering around the Sound view area in the Bronx, I asked if they looked around for an owner? They stated yes they did but nobody came forward so they brought the dog to us.
