04/27/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Limited profile 4/23/17 Intact Male, Stray Previously lived with: 1 adult and another dog Behavior toward strangers: Friendly Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward dogs: Playful but can play run Behavior toward cats: Unknown Resource guarding: Unknown Bite history: Unknown Housetrained: Unknown Energy level/descriptors: Other notes: Valentino was very energetic and allowed all handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 4/26/17 Look:2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity:1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog becomes aroused and fixated with the leash, he constantly bites at the leash during the item. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog licks, then turns away. Summary: Valentino was friendly but became rope reactive during the tag item. PLAYGROUP: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Valentino anxiously paces in the pen and avoids greeting the novel female dog. He then solicits and engages in a short burst of gentle play, before returning to his anxious pacing. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/24/17: During his medical examination, Valentino was playful and allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Valentino so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_No young children (under 5)-Due to Valentino Mouthiness adding a moderate pressure and also fixated biting the leash with moderate pressure, Due to these behaviors we recommend an experienced adopter and no young children. Potential challenges: _X_Mouthiness/Poor bite inhibition- Valentino has shown some mouthiness in the care center. Little pressure is applied, but this is a behavior that should be extinguished through training alternate behaviors and lack of reward (ex. walking away whenever Patrick’s teeth make contact with skin). _X_Leash-biting-Valentino becomes easily aroused and constantly goes for the leash during the tag item.
