Unique
Hello, my name is Unique. My animal id is #14309. I am a female brown dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender – aco on 21-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as animal behaviour – aggressive to other animals.
Unique is at risk for behavioral reasons. Unique displays signs of fear aggression and has been assessed as suitable for New Hope placement only. We have no medical concerns for Unique.

Summary:: During medical exam, Unique was extremely fearful-trembling, urinated/defacated when touched
ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Unique so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. In the care center, Unique is fearful and shut down, limited movement, low energy.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: Unique has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has not allowed handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home. We recommend only force-free, reward based behavior modification training methods as more aversive techniques will likely increase fear and increase the risk of aggression.
Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression
Potential challenges comments:: Unique has displayed fearful behavior in shelter, she displays no social behavior towards handlers and attempts to avoid contact. Because she is so uncomfortable, Unique does not tolerate any form of human touch. the behavior department recommends an experienced calm and quiet adult-only home until she can acclimate to her new environment for her behavior to be further assessed.
