A staff member writes: When I saw Tosa mix on Ulysses’ kennel card I thought to myself…hum…should I take him out? I took a good look at him, so quiet and benign in his kennel…Mastiff you are…and you are mine. Ulysses is a VERY nice dog, mighty handsome in his warm brandy coat. He owns a big mushy head, huge paws, gentle eyes and a debonair smile. He certainly could use a good ten pounds more. He is a little shy and tentative but strong and pulls quite a bit on the leash. My best bet is the yard. Ulysses enjoys his freedom but comes when called and takes politely my treats. He very much appreciates caresses and the attention he gets. Although a big dog, he is gentle in his ways, although he can run after the birds. He could be house trained, and I have not seen him marking his territory. He does not really sit on command or play ball. He might…in a few days. I really love Ulysses, the big red dog. He is friendly, likes the company of people and other dogs (he is playful and bouncy in playgroups with his peers) and absolutely gorgeous. If large dogs are your cup of tea, we have a wonderful one here at the Manhattan Care Center, ready to start his new job as your forever best friend.
A volunteer writes: Ulysses will never stop amazing me. It is rare to see a big dog, caged for days and remaining as well behaved and calm as he is, spirited and playful, always happy to see people and other dogs. Ulysses is absolutely astounding in playgroups with is peers, bouncy with males as well as with females. He enjoys caresses, even hops on the bench for bonding time and is so well mannered taking treats. He has been filling up while being fed three times a day and looks absolutely breathtaking… Ulysses does not belong to a kennel !!! He is a star and a GOOD dog who will make a new owner proud and blessed to have him as a companion. Come quickly to the Manhattan Care Center and take him home..
