07/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tyson lived previously with two adults, three children, and a teenager, and with another Rottweiler (Maxi), his littermate. Tyson was relaxed with the children in his family and he played with the adults. He got along with other small dogs, but did not interact with cats. No food guarding or other possessive behavior was reported with his previous owner. Tyson is described as independent, confident, and affectionate, with a medium activity level. Tyson’s previous owner states that he growled and barked at strangers, and barked with a tense body when people approached his home or yard. He pulls hard on leash and may dig in the yard when left alone. His previous owner recommends a quiet home. Tyson was tense during his initial medical examination, but he tolerated handling. He snapped while being collared for playgroup his first time out, but permitted being collared the second day, and was responsive to the other dogs and to his human caretakers, but he was tense in the yard. Tyson was brought into the behavior room for a SAFER assessment, but was uncomfortable with interaction. Even when approached slowly, Tyson tensed and bared his teeth. Due to these clear warnings and requests to increase distance, the behavior evaluation was ended and Tyson returned to his kennel. In light of the behaviors observed in the care center and the report from his previous owner, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide a stable home environment and any necessary reward-based behavior modification to address the concerns and to make sure that Tyson and those around him stay safe.
07/01/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
According to Tyson’s previous owner, Tyson has lived with another Rotty and spent time with small breed dogs. He is descriebd as respectful and playful with the dogs in the home. 7/1: An attempt was made to place a collar on Tyson today. When the collar was about to be close around his neck, he lunged and snapped at the handler. We allowed him to meet the female dog through the gate and Tyson displayed soft body language. Another attempt will be made to collar him. 7/2: Tyson was able to be collared today. He was very nervous as he entered the pen. He was panting and his face was tense. He greets the other dog and allows her to greet him. He is sexually motivated but does not attempt to mount. He listens to handler interruption and wanders in the pen.
