11/15/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: She’s so magnificent in her auburn shining coat, her eyes matching her coat. Shy in her kennel, and reluctant to make friends, I eventually win her over and out we go. Twizzler seems to be housetrained, has lovely leash manners, and ignores all the park critters, even a squirrel right in front of us. Off leash, she’s not yet ready to play with toys, and when I sit on the ground, she comes when I call her to give me a quick kiss. I’m looking forward to spending more time with this gorgeous girl, as it’s clear she wants to be friends, but just isn’t too sure about anything at this point. Stay tuned for an update on our Twizzler. A volunteer updates: Our Auburn beauty, our initially frightened little girl, has come out of her shell, comes forward to be leashed, and happily steps out of her kennel for a walk. What a difference a day makes! She’s still a tad shy, but as we meet a staff person, she greets him with a tail wag, snuggles and kisses, and I’m stunned to find out this is their first meeting. Well, OK! Rockstar! Still amazing on leash, we head to the park, Twiz checking up often as we walk and looking into the face of every passerby. Off leash in a pen, she presents her butt for a good butt scratch, turns her nose up at my treats (used to better, I guess), and wags her tail at all the activity in the driveway. She’s such a good girl and has come so far, her next step needs to be out the door with a new person or family. She’ll need time to warm up, but what an amazing companion she’ll be when she does.

Thorough cousneling on Twizzler’s observed behaviors, or a pre-adoption interaction is highly encouraged. 11/11: When off leash with a playful male Twizzler is initially uncomfortable but warms up over time.
