06/29/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 6/23/17 Unaltered Male, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 6/29/17 Summary: Troop is difficult to remove from the kennel, lunging and snapping at the leash. He appears to be uncomfortable or afraid of the slip lead. He has also allowed minimal handling from her caretakers. Out of concern for his stress levels and his response to restraint, we feel Troop is not a good candidate for a handling assessment at this time. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Summary INTAKE BEHAVIOR MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 6/23/17 During his initial medical exam, Troop was snapping and did not allow handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Troop so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, he displays a low level of activity. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13): Due to how uncomfortable Troop is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Troop has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Troop has displayed fearful behavior in shelter, he displays no social behavior towards handlers and attempts to increase distance and avoid contact. Because he is so uncomfortable, Troop does not tolerate any form of human-touch and has attempted to bite upon direct contact. We recommend force-free positive reinforcement training only.
