05/23/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: e e cummings once wrote “kisses are a better fate than wisdom” but having met Trixie, we say–why make it an either/or situation???? She’s a fantastic kisser and we’re betting she’s very wise too, judging from the sneakiness with which she is able to extract biscuits from pockets. As if she needed to sneak them–she’s so adorable all she would have to do is ask. Trixie, who appears to be house trained, is an all-around delight to be with and would make the dearest family dog!
05/24/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Trixie pulls a bit on the leash. She was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. Trixie was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Trixie was easy to handle when chewing on toys. Trixie did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is active and focused on the Assessor and all other stimuli available. Her body is soft, likely panting, likely to display high movement between attempts. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. She shows continued interest in approaching.
05/22/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Although Trixie has displayed social, playful behaviors while off leash with dogs, her increasing level of arousal during play or in response to correction have raised concern. Trixie arrived into our care as a stray, so in home behaviors are unknown. The behavior department feels that Trixie should have a pre-adoption interction, as well as slow introductions before immediate cohabitation with a resident dog. 5/22: When off leash with other dogs, Trixie greets politely with a soft body and wagging tail. She shows continued interest in approaching. 5/24 update: Trixie engages in bouts of play with a female dog. 5/25 update: Trixie engages in soft play. 5/26 update: Trixie engages in bouts of soft play with other dogs. During interaction with a select female, Trixie becomes more tense-bodied and quickly becomes overaroused, vocalizing and nipping. 5/27 update: Trixie engages in rough play in a large group of males and females. She becomes aroused during the interaction and, again, begins to nip at and vocalize. When correction is offered she escalates but is separated with handler intervention. She is tense and follows the other dog when she walks away. 5/29 update: Trixie engages in bouts of play with a male dog.
