A Little Bit About Me…

A staff member writes: Trixie’s original owner passed away and a family member has been caring for Trixie for several months. Trixie wassurrendered today as the owner could not keep up with her medical care. Trixie has a cyst that has not been biopsied. She has a history of skin allergies and has been having diarrhea for about 1 week. The owner tells us they switched her diet gradually about 2 weeks ago. Trixie would benefit from follow up vet care so she can receive necessary treatment.

Let’s get to know each other a bit more…

Basic Information:Trixie is a 5 and a half year old female that has skin allergies. Owner had Trixie for 4 months but had to surrender due to moving.

Previously lived with:2 Adults, 1 Child

How is this dog around strangers?Around strangers, Trixie is friendly and outgoing. She will jump on whoever passes her by and give kisses

How is this dog around children?Owner had a 5 year old in the home and stated that Trixie was respectful and playful with the child in the home.

How is this dog around other dogs?Owner had a female small breed dog in the home that Trixie was around for a few months and owner stated that she was always relaxed and respectful around the other animal. Owner also stated that when taken on a walk, around the neighborhood dogs, Trixie was always respectful and playful.

How is this dog around cats?Owner did not have any cats in the home so behavior is unknown

Resource guarding:Trixie is not bothered by having her food, treats or toys taken away

Bite history:Trixie does not have a bite history

Housetrained:Yes

Energy level/descriptors:Medium

Medical Notes: Animal has skin allergies

For a New Family to Know; Trixie is described as friendly, affectionate and playful. She has a high activity level and likes to play with balls, chew toys and frisbees. In the home, Trixie likes to follow the owner around from room to room. In the home, she was fed dry food brand Iams and was recently (2 weeks ago) switched over to Rachel Ray. Trixie is house trained and would only have an accident if she was sick. When left alone in the home or yard, she was always well behaved. Owner stated that Trixie is crate trained and would sleep in the crate every night. She knows the cues sit, come, down, stay and paw. For exercise, Trixie was taken on off leash walks in the park, taken jogging/running or be let out in the yard to play.

Details on my behavior are…

Behavior Notes: Behavior during intake: Trixie had a loose and wiggly body during intake. Counselor was able to scan for a microchip, collar and take a picture without any issue.

Summary (1): When greeting a male dog through the gate, Trixie was soft and relaxed throughout. Tail wagging and tolerant of barking male. Due to the helper dog being on limited activity, they were only able to meet though a gate.
4/09: When off leash with a medium male dog, Trixie was very polite and gentle when greeting. The male became uncomfortable and would avoid interacting with Trixie, which she respected and gave him his space. Trixie then just explored the yard and solicited handlers attention.

Date of intake:5-Apr-2018
Summary:Loose, wiggly, allowed all handling

Date of initial:5-Apr-2018
Summary:Tense, vocal

ENERGY LEVEL:Her previous owner describes Trixie as an energetic enthusiastic dog, which matches what we have seen in the care center.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)

Behavior Asilomar;TM – Treatable-Manageable

Potential challenges:Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition

Potential challenges comments:Trixie has shown some mouthiness while playing with adults in the care center. It should be noted in a home environment, owner reports Trixie plays respectfully with young children. Some pressure is applied, but this is a behavior that should be extinguished through training alternate behaviors and lack of reward (ex. walking away whenever Trixie’s teeth make contact with skin).
