06/10/16 14:49 Basic Trixi’s owner came to surrender Trixi after having her for 7 years because his building does not allow big dogs. The owner has been sneaking her in and out of the home for a year and was caught doing. He stated that he rescued her from a bunch of kids that was playing helicopter with her tail. She has been to the vet because she had ingested a piece of the owner’s carpet and had to have surgery to get it removed. Socialization The owner stated that Trixi can be shy with strangers at first and can take a little time before she is friendly and affectionate with people. She has been around children aging from newborns to teenagers. She would run away if they were to pull on her ears or her tail. When playing with children and adults she is gentle and has never been rough with the owner. Trixi has lived with a Chihuahua and a Lab before and was tolerant and playful with them. The owner does not know how she is with other dogs and thinks she is good with male dogs. She has never interacted with cats before do the owner would not know. She has never bitten anyone or animal before Behavior The owner states that Trixi is well behaved at home and would only bark when the doorbell rings. She would only have an accidents if she does not get a walk over 6-8 hrs. She loves to play with her toys but would destroy them very easily. The owners would state that she would cry when fireworks go off but is okay with storms. When touching/taking her food bowl, water bowl, bones, treats, and toys she is unbothered by it and would be friendly. When getting her off the furniture she would just get right back on it. She is afraid when being restrained, getting a bath, and getting her nails trimmed. She is unbothered with unfamiliar people as she will just bark and sniff the person. For a New Family to Know Owner described her to be friendly, confident, mellow and curious. She has a medium activity level and loves to chew her toys. She loves to play fetch and tug a rope around. She would either sleep on the couch or in her own bed. She has eaten both wet and dry food. The owner was unsure of the brand but would always feed lamb and rice. She is house trained and would use the potty outside on the grass. She knows sit, stay and come and would be close by her owner when off leash. Intake During intake she had a tense body at first and soft body after a few treats. We scanned (-), collared and took her picture.

A volunteer writes: Trixi has become a popular girl here at the care center. Her kennel is so often empty: “Out for a walk”. Trixi was pretty lost (being an older gal and a seasoned family dog) to have been relinquished to us because of housing issues. Indeed, she lived in harmony with kids of all ages, mingled with a Chihuahua as well as a Labrador Retriever and came with all the stars awarded to a good and beloved family dog. Volunteers love to spend time with her as she is easy going, and although reserved in her feelings, always comes for hugs and gives kisses. Trixi has remained shy with the camera, unabling me to ever take a great picture of her or catch a smile. The lens might be too big and too dark… and obstructing my face… not a reassuring sight for a sensitive dog. I can assure you, though, that Trixi can smile and put on a happy face. Yesterday, we went on a picnic, just Trixi and I. What a different pooch she was, spread over the grass or sitting, bright eyed, mouth open and nose testing the air full of barbecued meats smells. She settled gladly for fresh water, treats and roastbeef. Kids were running around us, small dogs were yapping: now we’re talking. It probably felt like old times to sweet Trixi. Trixi has won the heart of many because she is such a good girl. She is still a bit shaky and unsure, and in these strange new settings, prefers a gentle approach by people and dogs alike. She so dreams to be given the chance, to love and be loved again, and belong, forever this time, to a new master or family. Trixi is at the Manhattan Care Center.

06/11/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Trixi has mostly ignored interaction in favor of exploring her surroundings. She at times shows interest in greeting calmer, polite dogs. She offers defensive correction when approached too quickly or when solicited with play. The behavior department feels that a pre-adoption interaction is best to ensure compatability between Trixi and a resident dog. Trixi may be most compatable with a respectful, calm resident dog. Her previous owner cites “Trixi has lived with a Chihuahua and a Lab before and was tolerant and playful with them. The owner does not know how she is with other dogs and thinks she is good with male dogs. ” 6/11: When off leash with other dogs Trixi is tense when approached and will growl with a lingering greeting. 6/13: Trixi politely greets other calm dogs with a soft body and wagging tail. She low growls when approached by a more exuberant dog. 6/15: Trixi ignores the other dog and roams. 6/19 update: Trixi offers a few low growls to increase distance, then latter approaches, sniffs and licks the muzzle of the other dog. 6/20: Trixi growls when approached. 6/22: Trixi mostly keeps to herself, eventually offering polite greeting to calmer dogs in the yard.
