08/10/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 8/5/17 Unaltered Female, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 8/9/17 Summary: Tri is extremely fearful at the care center, backing away from people and avoiding handling. When she is brought into the assessment room, she avoids the handler and alligator rolls trying to get away when a handling assessment is attempted. Out of concern for her stress levels, the assessment is not conducted. She has not shown any aggression in the care center. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: 8/6: When introduced off leash to dogs, Tri keeps only to herself. INTAKE BEHAVIOR Upon intake, Tri was tense. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/6/17 During her initial medical exam, Tri was tense but allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Tri so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. In the care center, she displays a medium-low level of activity. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13): Due to how uncomfortable Tri is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Due to the high level of fear Tri displays at the care center, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Tri to acclimate comfortably to her new environment; reward based training only is advised when introducing Tri to new and unfamiliar situations. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful: Tri is extremely fearful in the care center. It is important to always go slow and give Tri the option to walk away from any social interaction. Tri should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Tri’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Tri would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.
