11/14/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
11/14/16 16:41 BASIC INFO Tresore A1096839 is an approximately 1 year old APBT. She is being surrendered to the shelter because she was found tied to a park bench as a stray. Finder cannot keep. Finder placed a leash on her and brought her to ACCNYC. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Tresore growled at a client that walked in to ACCNYC and tried to greet her. She did allow finder to hold her for photos.
11/19/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Tresore is a pretty gal, a little gem that needs to be discovered. She opens wide and anxious eyes to a new world she did not expect to live in. She accepts my leash easily, and she does not forget to do her business. She does not mind to be tethered for the photo shoot and accepts a scarf around her neck. She even sits on command. Tresore prefers to be free in a pen. Her tail wags a lot, she comes when I call her, takes treats from my hand, sits for them, and comes to my goodies bag but does not search it. After a while spent together, Tresore puts her forelegs on my lap, gives me little kisses on the face and accepts caresses…. The ice is broken. It did not take that long. From our enclosure, Tresore barks at other dogs but somehow, not in an aggressive way. It looks like a call, an invite…while she is unsure about her feelings and what to do next…I feel good about Tresore and think that in patient and experienced hands, in a safe environment and a caring and loving home, she will be a nice, loyal and sweet forever best friend. Come and meet Tresore at the Manhattan Care Center.
11/16/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray Other notes: Tresore growled at a client that walked into ACC and tried to greet her, but allowed Finder to hold her for photos. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/16/2016 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1 / 2: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure, does not pull paw back. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog sniffs, then turn away. Dog – dog 1. Dog approaches the helper, soft body, tail neutral, but not playful. Summary: Tresore allowed all handling with no concerns during SAFER assessment. She has warmed up significantly since intake and her initial medical exam. If uncomfortable, may do best with a slow approach/slow introduction. PLAYGROUP: 11/17: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Tresore stands tall when greeting. When solicited with play, she is tense, and follows after the greeter dog while vocalizing MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/14/2016 During Tresore’s medical exam, she was very nervous, crouched low to the ground, but allowed handling with light restraint. ENERGY LEVEL: IN-SHELTER OBSERVATIONS: Though observed to be human-social, Tresore may need time to warm up to the handler as she initially presents as a fearful dog, avoiding contact, shying away from direct touch. We recommend allowing Tresore to interact at her own pace, force-free, rewarding based training is advised when introducing her to new/unfamiliar situations. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with an experienced amount of dog experience)
11/17/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Tresore may take time to become comfortable in the presence of unfamiliar dogs, and often takes time to warm up to engaging in brief bouts of play. The behavior department recommends slow introductions between Tresore and any resident dogs in a home. 11/17: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Tresore stands tall when greeting. When solicited with play, she is tense, and follows after the greeter dog while vocalizing 11/19: Tresore interacts with another female today. She is a bit tense when greeting but quickly offers play bows and begins to bounce around the pen. After a few minutes she loses interest and begins to bark at exits. 11/22: Tresore greets politely but is distracted by rough play in an adjacent pen and focuses on that. 11/23: Tresore is a bit tense when engaging with a male and female dog but will engage in running play. She solicits with bows.
