Date of initial:: 11/25/2017
Summary:: Treble was active, sought attention, and allowed handling.
ENERGY LEVEL:: Treble is described as having a medium-high level activity by his previous owner. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: 11/27/17: Since arriving at the Care Center, Trebble has performed stress-induced repetitive/stereotypical behavior- incessantly pacing back and forth in his kennel. This behavior appears to be in response to being housed in a kennel environment and may be exacerbated by his vision impairment. For his well-being, the Behavior Team feels that Trebble should leave the Care Center as soon as possible.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No young children (under 5)
Recommendations comments:: No young children: Due to potential resource guarding displayed at the care center, we recommend a home without young children.
Potential challenges: : Resource guarding
Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: Treble has displayed a potential for resource guarding at the care center, becoming tense and quickly taking away the toy he was in possession of when the assess-a-hand touched it. We recommend that Charlie be left along while eating, and that food guarding behavior modification steps (available at ASPCApro.org) be utilized if this behavior is problematic in his future home. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Charlie’s mouth, and any time something is removed he should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. He should be taught the “drop” cue and trade-up games.
