A volunteer writes: Trap has a gorgeous black coat and endearing brown eyes, and he is one of my favorites at the shelter. He is easy in and out of the kennel and loves to play or give kisses (watch his video below). Trap’s kennel is spotless, indicating he is most likely house broken. If you are interested in adopting Trap, please come to the Care Center and meet him.
08/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Trap came into our center as an owner surrender on 8/1/2016. He was affectionate towards staff upon intake, nervous once placed inside kennel. Trap pulled hard on leash for his relief walk. He displayed high energy and movement upon entering SAFER assessment room, jumping and attempting to jump over fence. Trap pulled out of assessor’s hands on all three Look attempts. He leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, open mouth, slight wagging tail. Trap was distracted and unresponsive to touch during Tag game. He jumped up on assessor (lightly) during positioning for Squeeze item. Trap did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, licks assessor’s hand. He jumped up hard on assessor during positioning for Toy item, once positioned he kept a firm grip with loose body. Trap approached the helper dog quickly, tail above spine level. The Behavior Team feels Trap would do best with an Experienced adopter. He will require obedience classes to learn leash manners as well as not to jump up/body awareness. Trap will require daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of walks, runs, exercise, play as well as durable toys such as kongs and nylabones to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. Trap should not be left alone in any yard since he has displayed attempts to jump over the fence while here in our care. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, licks hand Toy 1: 2. Dog jumps up hard on assessor, once positioned keeps a firm grip with loose body Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
